A Podcast is Not an MP3 – And Vice Versa
After reading a post from Steve Lacey on a local entrepreneur's organization (NWEN, Northwest Entrepreneur Network), I flipped to their site and searched for more information. No blog, no RSS, nothing but a couple of email newsletters. Oh, but they do have podcasts – kinda, but not really. They say they have podcasts – so, where are the RSS feed(s) for them? If you don't have feeds for files, they're not podcasts – stop calling them podcasts unless you're going to provide a feed for the files. And if you are going to provide a feed, then don't bury it in your site. JUST BECAUSE YOU PUT AN MP3 FILE ON YOUR SERVER DOES NOT MAKE IT A PODCAST – PODCASTING IS A PROCESS, NOT A FILE OR A GENRE! This has been a public service announcement.

are good reasons for 320×240 (bandwidth bills) and 720p (looks fantastic). Do whatever makes the most sense for your show. Hehe – I pointed out the very same thing to one of the organizers on Tuesday night.
They have a some cool content on the site, but it's tricky to find. It'd be cool to see an RSS feed of their events, notes from sessions, etc… They need a makeover.
On another note, where's that list of 15 trusted VC's you got from Andreessen? :-)

If I have MP3 files that are never updated (maybe they are just songs even) with static RSS feeds (that never change) is that a Pod cast? I think you are onto something with the notion of it being a “process”. I'd put more weight on that than the feed itself.

I disagree. We do podcasts but we don’t always have to use ‘feeds’ and all that trash. A podcast can be any sort of sound on an MP3, MP4 — feeds and blog-like stuff is optional. You could record a four-hour radio show as an MP3, put it onto your website and call it a podcast and… hey presto, it’s a podcast.
