Chris, you rock. I've taken your suggestion re: Knoppix and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with it. Trouble is, I have a Rockwell internal modem and sound card; here's hoping Mandrake cures that problem. However, I need to dual-boot wit XP home but assuming it will work no problem. Correct, readers?

I installed 9.1, it rocks! Even easier to install, everything worked, easy connection to a Windows network via LinNeighborhood, it's great. Everybody should try it!

Yo chris. I own the Sony NS755V and it's 'friggin kewl'. The 315 was my first choice, but the 755 did something (can't remember what, maybe optical digital output) that the 315 couldn't. Anyway, love the player, it rox.

mandrake 9.1 is a nice desktop linux like it more than Lindows. Personally Istill belive that no body needs anything more than a Slackware linux CD and the Blackbox WM.
Also I have snapstream and hate it hate it hate it. I use Svideo into my WinTV card and snapstream could never get it the picture to look right did not lime me using the svideo. Called I just found it easier to use PowerVCR II from Cyber whoever the people that make PowerDVD. or just use the Free Windows steaming media encoder for windows , which all snap stream is really using and I have a spare machine that I have NT4 Server on wiht windows streaming server another free download. which is another thing you are paying for in snap stream. REally for al lthe money chris is spending on snap stream it really just for the free software. Snap streams web interface is nice but not worth the price tag.
you can get widows streaming server to genrate html of streaming files on the server so all yo uhave to do is click and it plays. Great for alot of things and great thing is this. you can setup in the new windows media encoder that you can setup 1 file that supports multiple connection types. So he is at home he can see the full blown version at DVD quality. or at work and catch his favorite show at close to dvd quality thought tech tvs connection. or ok quality if he is connecting via 56k. becuase since version 6 of window media format while you encoded it at one rate you can set it up so it has markers for different connections.
Note on DVD players I have a NS315 love it . also have a GoVideo dvd player that i picked up for 55dollars at rat shack that does just of a good of job. But I use the sony more just because I like the remote better.

Sadtimes.
I'm really sorry that I can't make it, Chris.
I'm sure the 5's of people who were looking forward to me will tear up lots of cardboard, in a muted rage.
If you're one of those 5's, here's the deal: the week of Gnomedex is the busiest week of the year for me and my family. Everyone in our house has a birthday, as does my brother and my best friend, and my wife's best friend. It's always a hellishly busy and crazy time, and I need to be home for it.
Commence cardboard-tearing.

I read a memo given this week in my office email: Kinko’s U.S. locations are donating 30 minutes of free high-speed Internet access to help immediate family members stay in touch with those stationed overseas“Caring for our communities is one of Kinko’s Core Values. When we heard how many of our neighbors are away from their families, we naturally wanted to find a way to help, said Susan B. Parks, Kinko’s executive vice president of operations. “Kinko’s is delighted to provide rental computer time and Internet access – both free of charge – to help military families keep connected.

We got digital cable to watch the movie channels, but we watch them like once a month or less. That is kinda dumb that Tech TV isn't on in the same city it is recorded in.

Gee..visiting your blog disappoints me. Here we are in the middle of a crisis that will affect communications worldwide and no info is related to it. Almost as if I am visiting another planet here. I understand that you may feel this is not the forum for this..but surely this world-wide event cannot be purposefully ignored.

I too installed MDK 9.1 this weekend, and it went smooth as well!
My only beef at the moment is no support for my Logitech ClickSmart 510 USB web cam...
Later today I'm going to install Win4Lin just so I can get at my Delphi and Crystal Reports (my bread and butter)... though I have to confess my XP is still there (for gaming and other essentials).

So the WinTV PCI card works. Is her computer running Windows XP? Does it work with XP? I have been wanting to get one but have not because I don't know if it would work with XP. Which model did you get?
