Do You Have Fears as a Parent?

Patron John Whittaker had another great question, so I wanted to address it today. You, too, can become a Patron and receive priority answers to your questions!

Now that you and Diana are going to have a baby, do you have any fears about being a parent?

The unknown.

Who doesn’t fear THAT?

Sure, I suppose I think about how I’m going to react to certain situations, but I’m fairly confident I can weather through the average day and rise to the occasion when it’s called for.

I’m concerned that I’m going to miss something important… and childproofing this home is going to be a daunting task. Any tips?

What about all of you out there who have or are expecting kids? What are your greatest fears as a parent?

  1. I’m not a parent, so I wouldn’t be able to answer this question outright. If I think about it though, I think I would be most afraid of my kid inheriting some of my genetics (bad eyesight, thyroid problems, etc.). That’s what I’d be afraid of.

  2. My wife and I have a two-year old. Don’t feel obligated to baby-proof your home right away. Just make sure you are prepared once he or she begins to crawl and ultimately walk. We baby-proofed in stages and it has worked out well. However, just understand that when he or she reaches the toddler stages, they will find workarounds to keep you on your toes. Try to remain flexible and patient. I wish you luck and am excited for you and Diana.
