The Man in the Mask

“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” Oscar Wilde, The Critic as Artist, 1891

I walked in on Diana wearing one of these weird face-cleansing masks. In retrospect, the best thing I could have done at that exact moment was quietly walk out and hope she didn’t catch a glimpse of me in the mirror during my retreat.

But no. No. That would have been too easy. Too smart. So what did I do, instead? I laughed and said something about her looking like a monster.

Now who’s wearing the mask? Now who’s laughing? Sigh. Good going, me.

As viewer ozusenet wisely said:

Seriously, Chris, you have to get a daughter quickly. Diana needs someone to practice makeup on… Until then, its all you, buddy! 🙂

Too right, man. Too right.
