Are You Having a Good Week?

Normally, I wouldn’t be so excited about getting spam in the mail. But guess what? I got SPAM in the mail! Spam and SPAM are two different things, so this statement isn’t as contradictory as you might think. Junk advertising, known as spam (in lowercase letters, unless beginning a sentence), has been the scourge of email communication since time semi-memorial (circa early ’90s). It borrows its name from Hormel’s SPAM — a canned meat product — by way of a famous Monty Python sketch (and now musical!).

If you’ve been watching this vlog for any amount of time (or possibly even once, depending on the episode), you’ll know that I’m a big fan of readily edible meat products of every kind. When Diana’s out of town, I practically live on the stuff — especially when it’s compacted into delightful jerky (a word that also carries more than one meaning) tidbits and beef sticks. So when my parents were kind enough to send me a care package that included SPAM with Bacon and SPAM with Jalapeno (limited edition!), well, in the words of R. Kelly from his multi-chapter WTF-did-I-just-watch opus Trapped in the Closet: “a tear fell up out my eye.” (Someone trap that dude in the bathroom, already. I don’t think he’s potty trained.)

Anyway, it seems like I’m having a good week so far. How ’bout you?
