So it’s been a surreal experience having a documentary crew in our house the past few days. I’m hoping that this vlog will give you a little taste of that. It’s not so weird having a camera on me all day long — I’ve gotten kind of used to that over the course of 163 (wow!) episodes of this thing and, of course, the total of 5,176 (double wow!) videos posted to my YouTube channel over the past few years. But having more than Diana, Wicket, and Pixie in my personal space can be borderline overwhelming.
But stepping outside of one’s comfort zone every now and again can be a good thing, so please don’t get the impression that I’m saying anything negative about the overall experience or the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious crew. Directed by Eliot Rausch (you should follow him on Twitter! Hint, hint!), I couldn’t ask for my space to be invaded by a finer bunch of fellows. Even the times we all crammed into my little car and went to get coffee.
One funny thing I noticed: Eliot, himself, doesn’t like to be in front of the camera. Now how can I use this tidbit of knowledge in a way that’s hilarious to me? Hmmm…
Life online and in front of the camera used to be outside of the ordinary, but it’s really gotten to be pretty commonplace — and anyone can do it (if they want to do it). I’m lucky to live in a time and place where it’s possible for me, because I can’t imagine what I’d be doing otherwise. And it’s encouraging to get comments like this one from viewer Adrian Sills:
Chris, your life is very inspirational. You seem to have somehow gathered the perfect ingredients to help you weather the storm that we all go through in life: a great partner in Diana, a career you enjoy, and an environment you feel comfortable within. So many of us desire those three things and usually never come close to getting them. I think that’s why people love your vlogs. You’re not showing off material, but the basic things we all strive for. Keep up the good work; I love the vlogs!
Thank you, Adrian, and everyone else who tunes in! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of watching as Diana and I get from being here!
