Ive come up with an excellent system. I decided to keep my netflix streaming account, and I rent movies from redbox. It turns out to be cheaper, also since I love video games I now rent from blockbuster online, it turnes out to be cheaper!

Your current $11.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray access) will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray), 1 out at-a-time (no streaming)
              for $9.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $17.98 a month ($7.99 + $9.99). You don’t need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

Just about every other service out there lets you keep your current billing when they make a change. The only way to lose your old billing plan is to suspend, cancel and return, or change the plan you are on.

Perfect example… I have an iPhone with AT&T, I still have unlimited data for $30 a month because I got it when the plan was still available.

They launched in Canada with a shitty selection of programming (around 10% of the US catalogue) and it’s been quite popular forcing our cable companies to really try to screw with internet pricing here. I think they’d be better off announcing a horizon say in 6 or 12 months for US combo subscribers. Personally I’d like to be rid of my hard media and would be willing to pay 10/mo + for 50% of what you get in the US. Again. I think they could have played it smart and made it a longer term strategy to keep the love alive. Lets also keep in mind that Blockbuster used to charge us $3-6 bucks per for what we get for a song now. I know many people want their hard media but I am not in a hurry.
