When you add up you pay verse the refurb replacement cost, often it is cheaper not to buy the extended warranty. Then after mfg warranty expires, if it breaks, either buy refurb, new, or newer / better replacement.

The cost is generally 20 – 25% of the purchase price. That is SO not worth it to me, especially given the fact that if a product is defective, the defect usually show up shortly after purchasing, while still under the standard warranty.

I am going to make an exception, with my iMac. The warranty is about to expire, and the cost to protect it for another 2 years is $169, not an outrageous amount of money for and additional 2 years, and tech support. Even when I buy a new Mac, I always keep the older one around as long as it’s functional.

I’m no longer loyal to any store. I shop based on customer service, price, and return policy.
