We get annual upgrades on all our machines. And, each of us gets our own laptop which is also upgraded to the latest model.

Out of pocket, we pay more for the contract than if we had just bought new computers every years, but when the tax refunds get deposited we wind up on the upside.

Anyways, I would rather keep both my desktop and notebook. They’re sync’d via UbuntuOne anyways so keeping info, files, contacts and bookmarks isn’t an problem.

Most importantly though.. I am a very firm believer that one should never put all their eggs in one basket. For somebody like me who is always on the Net 24/7.. even that 24-36 hours offline waiting for a warranty replacement is too long. 😉

By: Phil Taylor Mon, 21 Jun 2010 20:39:11 +0000 I totally disagree. I use an Acer AspireOne netbook. Since most of what I do is on the internet, I don’t need a bulky desktop–I just need high-speed WiFi. And using flash drives, all my apps are portable. Desktops are obsolete–so are big hard drives. I’m quite happy with my netbook. Follow me on Twitter @taylor98

We used to travel more, which made laptops a requirement for the group, but travel is down enough to where we can manage the few trips with the old laptops and all new work will be done on the desktops.

Now the fun will be synchronization.
