Where do You Host Files for Free?

My friend Geoff Smith created my custom ringtone for my iPhone. Many of you want that ringtone, even though your name isn’t Chris. Well, I finally uploaded it for you all. Feel free to use it if you have an iPhone. I uploaded the ringtone to Drop.io. Drop is a free service that lets you quickly and easily share files of all types.
A drop is a chunk of space you can use to store and share anything privately (pictures, videos, audio, documents, etc.), without accounts, registration, or an email address. Drops are not “searchable” and not “networked;” they just exist online as private points for exchange between individuals or groups.
Create as many drops as you want in as little as two clicks and set things like a password, whether others can add to the drop, and how long you want it to exist (you can renew later). Drops can be flexibly used in a range of ways from sharing family photos and videos to collaborating on group projects.
Each drop has four primary input methods – the web, email, voice, and fax – and a few secondary ones like “widgets.” Anything you input into a drop can then be retrieved on the web at that drop location.
Another great way to share files is through MediaFire. You can share an unlimited number of files on MediaFire, as long as each file is under 100MB. You can link to your MediaFire files from within MySpace or a blog. Use folders to easily share groups of files or create galleries for all your images. No registration necessary and no software to install.
Why would you use either of these services? Besides the fact they are free, you can keep frequently used files online for easy access from any computer with an internet connection.
What other sites like these do you use? Which ones do you find to be reputable, as opposed to the ones that are just not worth your time?

I like MediaFile alot. Drop.io is good plus the fax feature is a plus for anyone who can’t access a fax. Assuming people still have fax machines, lol.

I use QuickShareIt.
It allows me to upload files just by dragging them on a dock icon. There is no need to sign up, and yet I didn’t notice any limitations.

Mediafire is pretty good. I’ve used it on Facebook a few times and it’s come in handy especially when I’m somewhere else and not at my computer and need access to my files. I can download them from anywhere. The 100mb limit isn’t even that bad.

I have to admit that media fire looks and seems really interesting. I also use 000webhosting for uploading certain files to the internet.
It’s almost like you don’t need a hard drive anymore when you can just upload all of your files to the internet. Is the future of computers even more web based than it is right now? I think it’s heading that way. Lets just assume to call it the “Server Era”. OKmaybe that is a bit dumb but it does seem to be heading towards that way.

I personally like FileDen. It has a really nice UI and the ability do upload/edit multiple files at a time. You have a lot of storage and lots of bandwith. Best of all, it’s free! You can upgrade to an account with more storage, and bandwith, and it also includes http://FTP. That’s why I like FileDen.

drop.io is great, my parents love it because it’s very easy and simple to use. and then i like using mediafire for myself to trade pictures i work on for graphic design because i dont have to compress them and can put all the files need in to a zip and dont have a limit other then that 100mb which is plenty. thanks for the review chris.

I actually use Filefront.com. Free and it works well. There are lots of websites with these capibilities. The thing with filefront is lots of adds but you don’t have to wait to download. Anyone can download but you have to register to upload but the thing is you can modify, delete and add videos, files, and photos. I have heard of many many websites with free uploads. Mediafire and filefront are the top of the list for me

Mediafire is good but it is limited with like 100MB limit (I didn;t check). The best thing is to use a domain, or get a domain, and get direct links to it. Use hostmonster.com to host the website and it gives you unlimited space*. So files will be given like this, http://www.yourdomain.com/file/
*It says it’s unlimited and it is but it’s really not, because of CPU and Bandwidth stuff.

So many people use rapidshare these days but so much of rapidshares file are illegal, not that people really care about downloading illegal stuff these days as so many people do with music and stuff. Ive only ever used one file host which was esnips, brilliant! website 6GB free of charge. 10/10 website.
