Isn’t Mario Kart Wii Fun?

I’ve been having a Wii bit of fun lately, playing Mario Kart on my Wii. It’s addictive. I picked it up after seeing a commercial where the player is using the little steering wheel. Even though it’s wireless, I’m using my strap. I don’t want it to go flying across the room! I totally don’t want it hitting my dog and giving him brain damage.
If you’ve ever played a racing game on a hand-held device or even a controller, you know that you tilt it whichever way you need your car to go. If the controller isn’t built like the Wiimote, it won’t do you any good. Finally, the hardware has caught up with our own deficiencies as humans!
Anyway… I decided to give this a shot to see if it was going to be as fun as I’ve been hearing. Indeed… it is a ton of fun, if you’re not losing. Normally I wouldn’t hold the controller as high as I am now, but I wanted you all to be able to see that my actions have equal reactions in the game. Interesting to note is that even though I lost the game, Nintendo has thought of pretty much everything. Not only can I move up and down the way you’d think I could… I can also press the right and left buttons to go up and down.
You don’t really have to move the Steering Wheel that far. You basically just tilt to maneuver. Of course, visually and audibly, it’s an amazing game. You do almost have a tendency to over-steer with this game. It’s interesting, too, that the character leans when you do. I’m a casual gamer, and I enjoy gaming occasionally. I’m having fun with this wireless Steering Wheel. The game and the controller get a huge “thumbs around” from me… which is far better than a thumbs up.

other than Smash Bros, Mario Kart is one of the best Mario series. i don’t count the other Mario sports games but both games are addicting. i got to play it a little at a friend’s house and i didn’t want to leave. that’s how good it is.

The more I see and hear about the Nintendo Wii, the more I want one. Nintendo has such a great product at there fingertips. When I used to play video games during my teen years, my mother would play just as much as I would and while she was playing, she would move her arms and hands around thinking that she motions would help her while playing. She would do great with the Nintendo Wii. I have tried to find one in my area but I haven’t had a lot of success. I won’t buy it from Internet retailers because they are buying the price simply to make an additional profit based on demand.
The other thing that really makes the Nintendo Wii so great is that while it is a video game console, it actually gets users off their butt and exercising rather than looking like a Zombie while staring at a TV screen.

The only game i have ever really got in to on wii was smash bros, and zelda.
I find racing games on the wii are really hard to get the hang off. maybe thats just me!

I completely understand where you are coming from.
As soon as my Mum gave me the money, i shot off to game and braught it. To my suprise it was the last one in stock, out of the 500 they had that day, so i was very pleased to go home with this great game in my hands!
So me being a nintendo fan, i was a bit worried about this, as nintendo released it so soon, but infact, the wii wheel works great and alot better than i actually thought it might. My hopes were not high for the wireless steering as of my recent playing of exicte truck, which had the most HORRIBLE controlls, really. don’t buy that!
so i went home and played it for hours, and the next day, i was sooo addicted that i unlocked all cups on 50cc! And what fun it was.
now i just wish i picked up an extra wii wheel when the store asked me =)

mario is classic!. pair it up with wii, even more better!, anyway, the good thing with wii is that instead of slouching on the couch, you get to have actual workout… nintendo just gave a whole new meaning to gaming… at last! gamers won’t be stereotyped as fat slouchy couch potatoes!!!

Mario is a classic… i remembered playing that game way back with the atari family computer. anyway, mario with wii is even better. with wii, you actually do workouts, as these games are more “physical”. say goodbye to fat slouchy couchpotato gamer stereotypes…

truly while Mario Kart looks fun, I have to say I have not touched my wii since December. I even have it packed up in a bag atm. I just don’t see games coming to it that I want to play. I sit here looking at the PS3/Xbox 360 with their games such as GTA 4, CoD4, and on and on and I wonder if I should sell and get one of them (would probably be the PS3 because of the blu-ray ability). Hopely I will see more games I like on the wii otherwise the thing is off to ebay.

Nice review on the Mario Kart, I have been thinking about getting a Wii and Mario Kart, but wasn’t really sure on the game. My first thought was that the game would differ to much from the good ole days of the N64. Looking at the graphics and the basics of you playing it I can see they kept with the good parts of the games. Thanks for the review Chris Pirillo, you have persuaded me to closer getting this game and the wii.

The way it zapped your attention reminded me of how it took mine at first. It’s just something about being behind the wheel of a Wii with Yoshi as the driver. The online is rather fun for it also. That’s more prone to grab your attention then the single player itself though.

Sure looks fun Chris. I have thought about getting a Wii, kind of because of all the cool little gadgets like the steering wheel, and the Wii Zapper. But I am more of a PC gamer so I don’t think I will be getting a Wii anytime soon.

I personally have not played this game and don’t own a WII. My friend does though and I played the WII sports and Wii is pretty cool! I personally have a PS3 and people say it is bad but you can’t say much if you have never played one. I think they are better that Xbox360 cause the PS3 can play Blue Ray and good old DVDs Ya! Yes, it does I looked it up in the manual but haven’t tryed it yet. Well, I hope to get a Wii one day

i havent purchased this game, but it is for sure the next one on my list. i love the hands on interaction of the wii. i was playing metroid the other day at and in order to open the door you actually have to reach out, grab the ****, and turn the handle! Nintendo has done an amazing job with making the players feel like they are more apart of the game.

Wii is a very fun gaming platform and is very fun! I own one and it is great! Mario kart has long been sold on Nintendo platforms. Wii is the best Nintendo platform of course and it definatley has alot of addicting games. Even though Wii doesn’t really have a whole bunch of online games they are still really fun and good for all ages. i like it more than ps3 ;).

Well, I don’t own a Wii, I have however played MarioKart Wii at my friends house for a bit and I can say right now I don’t like the wheel (Did they name it a Wiil yet? Who knows…). It just seems a bit clumsy and it [the wheel] makes it too easy to turn too much, in my opinion anyway. Using just the controller seems more accurate. Moving on from the controls…the game is a worthy addition to the awesome Mario Kart family, although I still love Mario Kart DS more. I liked the addition of the Mii as a character and the new cups are nice.

I haven’t play The game so i don’t have any experiences with it. I know it not the same but I seen the previews and look at reviews. It looks like it would be a fun game to play Chris sure seemed to like it. I might half to go out and buy. I bet it would lighting up my life a little bit. the Nintendo wii seems more like a reality game because you half to move around. It also gives a workout. Seen a preview for an exercise game thats coming out this month. But Mario Kart looks like a game to play.

Thanks for this short review chris, i was thinking about buying this for my brother since he has a wii and i just loved all the other games in the series plus if i buy it for my brother, there’s a good chance i can take it for a spin as well. I just hoped with the conversion to the wii that it wouldn’t lose it’s greatness that the series has built up, but reading and seeing you it still looks like it’s great. Thanks for reviewing this chris.

Mario Kart Wii is very fun especially the online feature because now you can race 11 other people at the same and you can even race against both friends and other people you don’t know because they added a new feature that lets freiend join random matches that their other freinds are on. The new control design is so easy to use that even people who never played a racing game (or any game for that matter) can easily pick it up and play and enjoy it.

Wario,
The back of your head looks fantastic. Great hairline, too. Please pass my compliments along to your barber.
Quite honestly, I’m somewhat surprised that the Wii is as popular as it is. I mean, when I first played it I thought it was really cool…. but the novelty of it wore off after about 20 minutes. I guess the other humans are entertained a lot more easily than I am!
Props to the Wii though for continuing to innovate. The more types of Wiimotes that they can come up with, the less chance they have of their users becoming bored with it.
Then again, maybe I got bored because I only played the bowling game. :OP
Peace,
James Gia

All of my friends have been talking about this game! Even more so that Grand Theft Atuo IV! I did have the opportunity to play the demo at my local Best Buy store, and I have to agree, this game is awesome. I was actually predicting this game to be bad, because I usually find that sequals are generally bad. (The Halo sequals were bad, anyone agree?). However, Nintendo has managed to turn that opinion around, for after I played it, I fell in love.
For some reason, in this game, I find it difficult to drive in a straight line. For example, if I am turning into a banked turn, I find it difficult to stay up high or stay down low. I end up driving in a “zig-zag” fashion, which is very inefficient.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to maintain and consistant driving line, I would be all ears.

Aww… “more brain damage than he already has” haha. I don’t own a wii but this game sure is fun. We play the old one all the time on the other consoles. It seems to be a fun 4 player game for us college aged students. It makes me wonder how responsive the controller is though. My friend said it sort of sucks and he’s rather play with like a normal controller not the wii controllers. Guess I’ll have to try it one of these days.

While I’m not a gamer… I grew up playing Mario… and every now and then, I will get the old NES out of the closet, hook it up, and play for days on end. I love the 1985 classic Super Mario Bros. There is nothing better than that theme song blowing through surround sound. AND… surprisingly. it looks good on a HDTV. Weird, I know.. but it looks and sounds good. If it has Mario in it, I’ll buy it. I do have a Wii, and will be getting this game soon!

I got the opportunity to play this game at Best Buy the other day and absolutely loved it. It’s probably the best game I’ve ever played. My only problem, is that the wheel is too confusing. If you hold the wheel flat, and try to turn it like a real steering wheel, nothing happens, so it would be easier for me to play it as if it were more of a tilt game. not a driving game. Excite Truck is just about the same, the only notable difference is the characters. Other than that, Wii would like to play.

i don’t see why they can’t put more characters in.. where are characters like paratroopa, goomba, the thing from mario sunshine that is in mario baseball, they have funky kong why not candy kong or cranky kong, link? there are quite a few characters in this one i can’t see why they don’t have more though, what about more modes like a tournament where you start with 12, if you come last you’re eliminated? simple things like this would really improvae longevity until the next one comes out… sure there are quite a few things to do but they’re basic moves like the traditional 50cc, 100cc and 150cc that are used to make the game longer but are really easy to do
