Comcast Technician Falls Asleep: The Interview

So I was sitting there in my chair, taking calls on the 888-PIRILLO line. Normally, the callers have a tech-related question to ask. I was shocked when this caller identified himself not only as a fan… but also as the guy who snapped pictures of a Comcast Tech sleeping on his couch!

Now that I’m finding my way around on my new Wii, I am having a great time discovering everything I can do with it. Did you know, for example, that you can get your local news… right on your Wii? CNN Live Tech Gets a Little Geeky

First, let me thank Mark, Lila, Valerie, Michael and others – who have been quite instrumental in making things happen. Mark’s been coming to Gnomedex for the past couple of years, and I’ve only met the others over the phone. I’m sure this particular “thank you” list will grow over time.

Tarragon Spaghetti

Nune made tortellini
and we ate it all gone.
The chicken broth was salty,
but we weren’t often thirsty.

Mom did her best with it,
enlisting my brothers and me
to wind noodles and wad the nips.

Luke Skywalker Wants a Wii

A few months ago, I had a bit of fun with an Open Source utility called MacSaber. I remember hearing someone saying that the WiiSaber had come along, causing the same sound effects. The WiiSaber author is the same one who created the MacSaber program I had so much fun with. Being a huge Star Wars and Luke Skywalker fan, I HAD to try this!

Wii Setup

The Wii is finally unboxed, set up and turned on. I press the “A” button to sync the Wiimote with the console. Time to choose the language, and set the date. Let’s walk through the rest of the setup now. Of course, I had to name the machine the GnomeWii. My Mii had to be called “MiniWii.

Open Source Wii Software

Minutes after I sliced my finger on the Wii box, I decided to download an Open Source program for Mac OS X. The DarwiinRemote is an application for Mac OS X v10.4 which allows Wii Remote to fully control applications on a personal computer. Essentially, you connect your WiiMote via Bluetooth to any Mac running OS X. The software includes a desktop application and a developers’ framework, allowing for additional functionality. To use the software, the computer must have Bluetooth enabled.

The Nintendo Wii Unboxing

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed

I’m in the middle of unboxing my Nintendo Wii – a full year or more after everyone else unboxed theirs. I think I’m the last Geek on Earth to have one. The packaging on this thing is really cool, and was fun to play with. I didn’t go out and buy a ton of games, as I’m only a casual gamer. It did, of course, come with the Wii Sports Disc. I’m looking forward to playing baseball and such.

How to Unbox and Set Up a New Computer

I recently received an email from Emmanuel. He has watched friends and family members receive a new computer many times, and then promptly do something to inadvertently harm it. Or worse… they don’t properly set the machine up! He asked me to pass along his email, in the hopes it may help you get started once you receive your next machine.
