The Choice is Windows XP over Windows Vista

I was surfing my RSS feeds the other night using Vienna. I came across a blog post about Vista from back in July, and decided it should be shared with you all, and commented on.

Over on JoeClarke.net, I came across a post called “Windows Vista: Bill Gates Driving his Edsel to Waterloo”. I could not have come up with a better title myself. Let me share parts of this blog with you.

Not only are needed software drivers very scarce, the entire interface is klutzy. Too many ways to mention, but whoever thought of revising the Explorer file folder scheme should have included listing the C: drive in the left pain. Why should I have search for the Root Of All Folders when wanting to look at all the folders sitting neatly like ducks in the left pane as has been done since Windows 3.0? OK, I like to learn new things, but only if the new things increase efficiency. Game players may love Vista, and maybe some folks who have never used Windows XP. I really believe Microsoft has jumped the shark on this one and one Serice Pack (coming out in 2009 according to one comedic blogger) will not fix the problem(s).

If you really like Vista prepare to buy newer software programs as many of your old XP programs will not fit. You may have to buy new peripherals such as printers, fax machines, scanners etc. You may not even find drivers for some Vista approved products, much less non-Vista products.

According to Vista Beta tester - Geekoid Christ Pirillo (google his youtube comments) and others, Vista is actually Beta software tested on Beta software. I believe Pirillo attempted to advise MS on some quirks, but was ignored.

This post was dated back in July, guys and gals. And guess what? Even all these months later, the same problems exist. The sky may not be falling, but faith in Microsoft definitely is.

Just the tales of a lovely time I had with Vista. I did also say I would upgrade to Vista once SP1 came out for it. I lied. I am getting Mac’s from now on.

Right now I am downloading a version of XP called Ultimate, http://www.lockergnome.com/nexus/digged/2007/10/30/windows-xp-ultimate-edition,
that might replace my current Vista set up, I will be running it in VMWare, its apparent that Micrsoft is doing nothing about Vista right now.

If there’s one thing that bothers me the most, it’s why companies have dropped the ball so badly on drivers. Seriously, is it THAT hard to get stable drivers for my video card?

Jeez, when I saw “Vienna”, I thought you had somehow come across a super-freakishly-early build of Windows 7.

Microsoft Vista Opinions are not FACTS. I wonder who coined the term?

I manage a 300 PC network. I bought one Vista machine a few months ago. My user is SLOWLY getting used to it, but all the specialized software we use makes it a pain. Just ordered 60 more PCs from Dell… with XP.

Man I love all the complaints. This is the same stuff people said about XP when it came out, but like XP we all ended up using it and complaining when it’s time to upgrade. Is it that MS has made a bad product or is it that people just love to *****? Lets see if Mac can sell 80million copies of its new OS in less than a year or better yet half as many…

It’s always a Windows problem!

Chris Pirillo is an IDI0T! Chris Pirillo is an IDI0T!

lol christ pirillo!!

Chris, you lost me after 2 minutes… What are you talking about?

I’m getting a dell 531s with Vista HP not thriled but what the hell.

Oh you don’t like Vista, Chris? Such a surprise. Why didn’t you say that before?

Yawn…nothing technical or even halfway helpful here. Move along.

i have windows vista and it sucks! :@

I have vista, and it rocks!

“But faith in Ms definately is??”. Wow i didnt know you are a prophet these days. Wow sometimes I wish you could read the things you say these days.. Really! Ok its your blog, but im sure you dont expect us to believe your biases against Ms lately, esp when we all know you wouldnt change them anyways.., and still want us to get your views.. I thought adults use common sense, but this is the US right. Ok WoW! Please tone your AAPL fanboism down a bit plz,so some of us can tolerate reading ur posts, please Chris? There.

Vista was designed for halloween, use it today!!!!

seriously, vista is going down the shithole.

I was at a “PC store” today. We talked about vista.
The salesman told me that more and more people are becoming mac users because Vista was such a catastrophe. One thing I don’t get, they even sold “downgrades”, by that means. If you have Vista, you can downgrade to XP ( without formatting your hard drive) which made me suspicious.

Chris ,you look so handsome in Ceasar costume.I am not able yo enter the chatroom anymore, such a bad server!I am very sad.I like yo watch you God bless you :)

I am currently running Vista Home Premium. In some funny way, I do like the O.S. to some extent. I do agree with a lot of fellow bloggers, that it is somewhat buggyand I have also found it has a tendency to be forgetful. The odd Program that I have installed and used without problems, seem to disappear. Now this seems to me to be a strange phenomenon but none-the-less it is happening. Even the odd password goes astray.
I was/am very happy with XP and have used it on the same computer that I got it with 5 1/2 years ago(with various hardware upgrades along the way), but the main reason I went for VHP was the feature MCE. I had wanted it for a long time, but couldn’t afford it. But by buying VHP, MCE came with it thereby killing two birds with one stone - a new O.S AND MCE. But at this stage, I am very tempted to just go back to XP and survive by using third party apps to view/listen to, my media. After several years of developement, you’d think MS would have released a “perfectly functioning” (and I say that loosely) O.S.
Really, They should have just stuck with XP and work on perfecting that with the usual Service Packs and maybe purchase-able add-ons.

Well after many daily BSODs on my Toshiba I upgraded teh ram. IT had some no name **** from Korea so in w/ 4 gig of Patriot ram and a fresh install format and smaller partition for the OS. Moonth later a few BSODs guess what FireFox is dying in Vista and that’s whee my BSODs come in.

DO I like Vista NO, it has not helped me stay or become more productive. I work in an environment where Human Performance issues w/ equipment interoperability and maintenance are big issues due to our industry, nuclear power.

So from the human performance perspective the designer of the Vista interface are a bunch of IDIOTS operating in a remote planet. Ever since 3.0 the standard layout helped me navigate w/ speed and confidence but this new layout is frustrating and adds no value to the user. It has keep a bunch of overpaid engineers employed a typical corporate ploy to look busy. That’s why all the Dilbert cartoons are relevant on a daily basis. Once I’m done w/ college I will learn Linux and look at MAC very seriously. My beef w/ MAC is that I cannot build my own PCs and install MAC OS, or can I? someone send me an e-mail if this is possible I’m a willing learner. Microsoft like our politicians are ignoring the will of the consumer/people. I for one am fed up with the arrogance of both Bill Gate$ and the District of Corruption!

I bought a desktop a year ago with 200 GB of hard drive memory. It has an XP Media Center OS and I always liked it far better than any OS that our family every had. That is just my personal desktop that I bought for college, but it does everything that I want it to do and it is practically flawless compared with all of the trouble with Windows that I have had in the past. I am the only one in our family that fixes our computers, which is a lot of them because we have 6 of them. I have never gone to any classes to learn how to fix them; but have learned through years of trial and error. We recently purchased an HP Slimline computer with Vista Premium, and while I have heard of all of the complaint with Vista Home, I haven’t really had any troubles with any drivers or apps… I guess that I am just lucky. I do think that all of the security “Did you open?” and “Are you sure?” dialougue boxes are driving me nuts. I will be really disappointed if Microsoft takes XP off of the selves. I don’t know what I would ever do with out it when I look at what they expect everyone to buy from now on.

Vista Sucks with a big S

Vista just looks like a really bad WindowBlinds theme. And MS have tried to fix all the things that ain’t broke, while not fixing the things that are. MS haven’t got the basics right, Apple have, and MS are just making their money on what must be declining volumes. The ultimate winner will be the first to produce a consumer-ready system that plugs seamlessly into your HD screen, the web and your game system so you can sit in your armchair surfing or watching TV or whatever. Remember getting up to change channels? That’s what the mouse will be like one day. Xbox Media Center maybe? Not Vista Media Center, certainly.

you know what? i used to say the same thing (about 98SE and XP). after using XP for the longest time, though, i’ve fallen in love with it. don’t get me wrong, though. i still love 98SE just as much as when it first came out, but i’d have to say that i love XP equally as much. its given me no problems, ever.

get ahold of HP and get that XP disc. you’ll be better off for now. don’t get me wrong, Vista’s nice, but for now you’ll be better off with XP. right now, the only thing Vista has going for it is visual.

So, Vista simultaneously rocks and sucks. That’s really helpful to know. But does it WORK? If yes, in what ways/tasks does it stand out? If no, then in what ways/tasks does it fall down or fail? How about a couple of lists along the lines of: Vista’s 10 most used, welcomed, etc., features and how to get the most out of them, plus a second list of the 10 worst problems or shortcomings and how to get around them?

Hi I am a XP Pro fan also !I have Vista but I found myself not wanting to use it. I just have learned to really like XP !!! Microsoft has it all ***-backward. Stevenho2

Don’t believe me? I’ll send you a message of a link to prove it

lol, im not a busniess man, and i do not need vista for the things you guys need it for. i use vista for gaming. i agree, i mean vista came free cause i ordere my coputer in a certain time range and i would not pay 99-250 dollars for it. thanks though

lol know whats super funny my grandpa bought vista and put it on his old windows 95 compac computer lol…….

hey
i can’t get onto live[dot]pirillo[dot]com

Vista is like Windows Millenium. They both suck, the only people who used it were the ones who ordered pcs built with it and don’t know how to get rid of it. Hopefully the next version of Win comes out quick enough before XP support dies off. My suggestion is to go with longhorn with the xp engine in it like they originally intended.

I had bought a brand new laptop(hp dv9205us) it came with Vista, I added nothing to the computer except firefox and an antivirus software, I gave it about 6 months and just couldn’t take it anymore, I downgraded it to XP, wich is what my three desktops are, and now 6 months later it still runs great with no problems and loads of apps in it, my 2 Mac’s(1 desktop, 1 laptop) have OS X, if Microsoft doesn’t get there **** together, it will be all Mac’s from now on

the fact that MACs only control less than 5% of the computing world, and the fact, even in the 80s, the pinnacle of Apple they controlled only 14% of the computing world, i really believe Macs are of no harm to windows..

fair do’s. I use mac os x, I do run vista as a virtual machine though. There are a few programs written for windows that I need for college and I enjoy using vista. (ish)

Windows Vista sucks ***! Absolutely the worst product Microsoft has ever put out. I want this **** out of our new computers so bad. It’s slow, buggy, chuggy…and just a nuisance. You have no power here. BE GONE before somebody drops a house, er, uh another operating system on you.

I have two computers one with xp the other with vista. I am fine with both although I am enjoying the extra features Vista has.

I bought a new “power” computer Nov/07 when the old one died. I had it privately made and opted for XP instead of Vista due to the complaints. I stand by my decision.

its good for Windows to have new features and look but ive heard bad things about vista

bullshit. vista is simply a lot more fun to use and it is more stable then xp.

But far slower, more incompatible and my old games run awfully. I got two BSODs in Vista. None in XP.

Windows 7 isn’t a full fledged OS. Its what Vista was supposed to be, and its only for people who don’t own vista. Vista in its whole is just a beta, and 7 is supposed to be the real thing. I don’t have confidence in it either.

vista is waaaayyyy slower. try to delete browsing history in IE7 in vista, takes like 2 minutes. takes about 2 seconds in XP, and a split second in firefox.

I now work on xp. the vista pros certainly don’t outweigh the cons, and vista is horrible for office/business use. would never use it for work applications.

no he isn’t. even if he is extremely cool, that doesn’t mean he is God.

sorry man, vista may be cool, but it sucks. i have it, i know. oh i want an apple……..

i want to see windows 7 it might be actually good.(vista sucks)

My comp is flying even with Vista. You need to know how to speed i up

lol.. that’s just stupid. xp improves on the old architecture in every way imaginable

chances are, you probably haven’t used 98 quite as heavily as i have. and which architecture are you talking about? because now there’s three. i could customize in ways that XP users couldn’t even imagine. don’t get me wrong, though, i love XP. thats what i’m using right now. but i think soon i’m going to save up and get the 64-bit version of Vista Ultimate.

If there is a god, it’s Chris Pirillo.

We’ll see just how smart M$ is come time to release Windows 7. If they change course and remove all the new Vista antipiracy systems running in the background that cause needless S L O W down and create hardware nightmares they’ll succeed if not more of the same if not worse. People don’t want this technology nor is it practical or efficient. Lose it or continue down the road of lost market share and customer alienation.
