Thanks so much for the info. It was driving me crazy that I could get the desktop on my HDTV (oh so crisp and beautiful) but the videos played only sound.

I had been searching for several weeks and guess I finally happened upon the right keywords to find this link.

In situations like this it would be interesting to compile all of the bogus solutions people asked me to try (drivers, resolution, refresh rates, etc.).

None of them suspected DRM!

Thanks again!

Video is usually played using a hardware overlay and almost all video cards only support hardware overlay on the primary display. Check this wikipedia article for proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_overlay#Secondary_displays

What is worse is that it is infinitely easier to backup a movie on DVD than it is to try and convert old Macrovision VHS tapes to DVD. DRM has been around in one form or another for some time.
I must concur with Mike about the outdated links. Anything we can do to help you keep them more current?
Philip

Whilst I have your attention, Lockergnome is now adding lots of links in the related sections to items that are years out of date. It’s a hell of a waste of time to follow a link only to find the article was dated five years ago and is no longer relevent. A history link in date order related to a subject would be very usefull when researching a subject or problem though.
