MySpace vs FaceBook

Five reasons I like MySpace:

  1. Everybody has a beautiful MySpace page
  2. It’s a haven for Internet marketers
  3. Tons of people over 99 years old - my demographic
  4. Easy discovery of loud music upon page load - no clicks required
  5. Advertisements are unobtrusive and targeted

Five reasons I hate FaceBook:

  1. Every page looks the same, is consistent, and is easily navigated
  2. Third-party integration increases functionality and adoption factor
  3. Personal email discussions are threaded - too organized
  4. Account is tied to my cell phone number - near impossible to game
  5. You don’t feel like you’re in the middle of a “friend competition”

Jeez, I really HATE FaceBook.

new registrations every day and would be the biggest very soon. It would be still early to conclude the comparison as Myspace is still the largest. Everybody has a beautiful MySpace page and all the pages in Facebook look the same. There are few more diffences in which Myspace is ahead of Facebook, but 85% of the college crowd is in Facebook. So until we give some more time its difficult to categorize the users of both the Networking sites.

not a fan of My Space, but he asks an interesting question. What social networking site do you like (if any) and why? [IMG ]clipped from chris.pirillo.com

@ Chris….you forgot to mention all your friends on MySpace are pushy twerps who you don’t know :)

hehe - i had just been speaking with a friend about a related issue.

I don’t really hate facebook, i just joined it. I actually use linked in.

But i do have issues with having to move all my authentication and profile data every time the latest, greatest thing appears - as well as losing track of others.

I wish we could just get a social network base and people could write on top of that to create whatever flamin’ networks they wished!

I have a myspace page, and i hate it. i’ve never seen such a poorly designed website. I made a facebook account, after my school was in the news because people were insulting teachers on it. I love it because it’s so much better designed, and much easier to use, and without all the stupid advertisements that people spam your page with, and all the people are actual people. it’s great!

[...] Chris Pirillo has a tongue in cheek comparison of the two social networking sites. I was going to post more, but an unknown technical error occured. [...]

Honestly, I was worried that FaceBook was going to go down the tubes (not the Internet tubes… the garbage chute) once they opened the app up to everyone. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well they’ve resisted becoming “MySpaced.”

And they have one hell of an advertising platform, knowing what they know about their users.

That does seem to be the trend lately. About one year ago, everyone I knew was using MySpace (true, it was still annoying then, but it was the normal mode). Now, I can’t think of a single person I communicate with who actively uses MySpace. I’m betting Murdoch ends up losing a lot of money on that deal.

I had a myspace account.
I set it up in private mode, and created it to keep in contact with people my 8 year old daughter and I have met around the country.
I was very careful who we accepted as friends, and had a disclaimer on the page that I was the one who edited and maintained the page.

Last night, I got an email from myspace. They had deleted out the account.
The reason, they said I was too young and breaking the rules.
Hmmmmmmm, since when is a 52 year old too young?
Oh, I had my age set at 100. Geez, I didn’t think that was too young either. (What woman tells her real age?)

I emailed them, but, didn’t get any response.
So, I joined Facebook.

Oh, well, I guess, I can live without the slow downloading pages, and extreme bandwidth draining my computers power.
I can even live without the loud music that blares as soon as the page is downloaded.
I can even live without the people who just want to see how many “friends” they can rack up by asking to be your friend.
Oh, and the ads.

Gee, why did I get a myspace?
Hmmmmm,

I enjoy the sarcasm, I just wish your ridiculous iPhone “review” had this same tone.

myspace was cool. then they sold it and now it isnt that great. facebook is coming up from behind and will take over soon. also, myspace is stealing to many facebook ideas. it reminds me of Apple And Microsoft. Apple comes up with theses great ideas. and microsoft steals them and gets credit.

SussieQ, you deserved getting kicked by MySpace. It’s pointless in creating a profile and setting your age to unrealistic numbers. Why not simply put your real age, and set permission to friends only? MySpace should delete all accounts that appears to be created by bots.

Facebook does have a simplier design… for kids.

i feel bad for college students on facebook and how high school students have like taken over facebook now. I mean it was originally for college students now facebook is just annoying.. its just myspace… but without any originality.. the pages all look the same..like we’re a frickin utopia or something i mean faceobok needs to add some color. yeah, ever since high school ive had a myspace and it WAS fun until all those viruses and weird bulletins starting coming up then it was just a painn so i decided to switch to facebook and i must say that at first it was so boring but now their starting to put more stuff on facebook so people can make it their own and i guess im starting to like it more…idk

is I am inundated with spam and bogus friend requests. Aside from the clunky UI and terrible design, this is the first reason I prefer Facebook. Why Facebook, why now? is the first article I’d suggest looking at as well as Mashable’s account andChris Pirillo’shumorous comparison plus Techcrunch on marketing. Otherwise Facebook, like Myspace, is just another social-network. If you’re on one you might as well be on the other. For me, Facebook is better organized and allows me to find out what my friends

time wasters they both are. an alter-ego created entirely to make ones self look better;cooler. Become something they arn’t. Just a generalisation though. SOme people use it well, like to keep in contact and there pages are modest to their personalities or whatever. hey, switch it all off, sleep in. make tea. gain life peoples. yes i am aware of the irony involved in relation to my message and my means of communication.

Well well. Lets open your minds a bit more here. As far as visually impaired or blind users (like myself) REALLY DISLIKE people making their pages look unstructured by adding 100000000 images, scattered around the screen with glitter and often being able to crash their screen readers and many browsers, I think either (A) myspace can do a much better job by putting an audio capcha, and making the option to exclude dif. page layouts and organize them in simplistic ways for easier and more plain viewing, OR (B) most people should come to facebook. Facebook is a community in which privacy works much better, people (not a few though) are more serious about their friends and indeed, the blaring music coming out of the speakers is dependant upon the user’s choice. Besides, facebook sends many notifications and has more aplications (programs on your page) which can allow a better social networking. YOu can also see exactly what, how, and when your friends last took an action (that they decide to show, of course). For now, though and sadly, most blind people and our screen readers have to fight the tremendous battle of unsuccessfully talk over the music, navigate websites, among other things. I just wish there was either (a) a way for myspace to be able to interact with facebook OR (B) more people coming to facebook. I have my reasons satisfied and fair and just htink we, like all individuals should have (not EXACTLY the same) but rather, almost as much access to websites, information and resources as everyone else does. Iphones are evil too. What if i am unable to read the display? Plus, touch screens go bad in about a year or some. Moreover, the eye candy features are a pain for some and not for others. However, the disadvantage with these “eye candy” features (really bright colors, images, icons, 3d pictures, most flash animations, java, ETC.): 1. Hinder most access for blind, deaf blind (whose only method is to read braille displays), sometimes dislexic and mostly dial-up users from accessing websites and information. (2)–require much more bandwith, processing, hard drive space and ram usage for most machines. Lastly, (3) Many can also have viruses embedded into them. This eplains why you got a virus or more when downloading the awesome screen saver or you know who’s picture. IMO, things can be put shiny and nice, look awesome, be stylized, and such but without that much hastle. Just like in music, edifications, cities, countries, continents, forms of government, ETC. it really helps to maintain order and avoid arguments or disputes like these if there is a structure in place, a basic principle. Same with the internet. There are stanrdards like the wc3 on guidelines for creating “accessible” websites, acts for most flash and pdf designs. I am not implying people should follow those but it really makes a different on the lives of many others. Facebook has many graphic applications and most of them, even though not fully accessible to us, still permit easy navigation and access to the relevant information we desire. Myspace doesn’t do this. Myspace is a site in which you can make your pages the way you want them, completely unorganized if you even wanted, or you could just put a blank page with a dot in the middle and say that it is your profile. Another but the last concern is too, why are then so many people working at myspace if they are not even willing to make all these optoins mentioned above available? It is a better idean than just sit there and ban accounts for reasons without strong basis or good supporting arguments. Just about everyone can lie on the internet and most of us know this. There is NO absolute way of having control over the internet either. China, Cuba, (and once Canada) tried to do this. So what? there are people with many ideas and inventions and proxies circumbent all these measures. Another reason why it is not possible to control the internet is because websites are theoretically and just plainly basically computers connected together. You never know when a website can appear nor when it can go down. Most ridiculous filters like websense (which of it it has little) attempt to also block many pages. The point with all of this blocking and such though is that just as like we can circumbent all these restictions, just about many people can say they are 8, 21, 30, 50, 100, 110 and so on. Sorry for the long ramblings but here is my commentry based on all of these posts. Thanks for reading.

i personally like myspace because it has better features than facebook. I think that facebook is kinda boring becasue everyone has the same things. In myspace everyone has their own design of features.

I have both and I don’t understand why you people think that Facebook is better than Myspace. It’s different, but not great.
I think you are just desperate to slag off Myspace in one way or another.

Facebook is boring, I have privacy concern with it, how can most of you put the real name and date of birth on the internet, have you ever heard ID FRAUD??? To find an existing friend, I have to give my PASSWORD of my email adress, no way! in Myspace you can just insert it on the search, how easy..
The profile on Myspace can be kept private too and even better, I can request my name and surname to accept an add! The applications on Facebook are very childish, sorry, but I dont find funny throw “food” to my friends or make them become a zombie..ah then the “gift” to spend $, how rip off is that?!?!? You want to give a gift to your friend? go out to the shop!

I have both a facebook and a myspace account. Personally i prefer myspace, the only reason i joined facebook was because all of my college friends use facebook. I believe facebook is really crappy, there isn’t much you can do but add applications and there is no way to customize your page. On the other hand myspace has many great aspects, you can customize your page and basically add any thing you want to it. Also myspace advertisements do not pop up they are just there so you dont have to worry about slowing down the speed of your internet connection. In conclusion FACEBOOK SUCKS!!!!

I couldn’t care less for both, there’s still this old fashioned thing called email. However, to connect with people who share similar interests I find myspace better, regardless of it looking annoying. Facebook is somewhat sucky if none of your friends uses it and I really have deep seated privacy concerns over the whole site, much more so than myspace.

What Do You Think?
