Google Calendar Security Notice

Uh, guys… y’all gotta tell your friends not to store usernames and passwords in public documents – at least, not without protecting them with passwords themselves. More importantly, the last thing you want to do is set a reminder for yourself in Google Calendar and leave the login credentials in the reminder AND set it for public viewing. Dude. Seriously. Lockergnomie Michael Kuhn sent this to me on Friday:

Cingular BlackJack Phone Problems

Before I came down to San Francisco for the Web 2.0 and Podcast Hotel conferences, I stopped by my local Cingular dealer and upgraded my phone and data plan. I had been using the relatively-solid 2125, but craved 3G network speed. Their Windows Mobile selection was paltry, reminding me once again about how corrupt and misdirected the entire wireless carrier ecosystem really is. Why can I only use this phone with that service? Asinine.

Streaming Live from the Podcast Hotel

I just sent this out a few minutes ago to my email subscribers. Since I’m streaming “behind the scenes” at the Podcast Hotel tomorrow and Saturday, I figured you should know to tune in. As today’s exerpiences and conversations with Eric Rice, dotBen, and Justin.tv illustrate – you never know what you’re going to get.

Mean People Suck

Just when I was getting ready to tell you all about how the Internet was an amazing people connector, I received this email from an anonymous asshole:

Chris,

What have you been up to lately? Coddling a bunch of losers while you drink wine out of single serving 187 ml bottles? You claim you are an “Entrepenuer”, a “Tech Addict”, as well as an “Idea Evangelist”, amongst other things. The truth is, you are a joke. You are marketing yourself as some form of celebrity, when in fact you are an ugly, self serving dullard who is attempting to gleam fame from a bunch of internet using toddlers. Furthermore, your comments are usually similar to the ramblings of a lobotimized turd deep in psychosis.

What is Blogging?

Dave is a tech industry pioneer. However, I believe the person who looks up to him most cares more about the man behind the code than the code itself. Ponzi loves Dave. Recently, she was given the opportunity to help furnish Dave’s new home in the Bay area. She wrote:

New Music Promotion Ideas

Ethan Kaplan thrives in the music industry as the Senior Director of Technology at Warner Bros. Records. According to him, “he loves computers and music (especially post-punk and punk). He has an MFA in conceptual art and cultural theory. He believes Jacques Derrida is the true father of the Internet.” He also apparently likes writing autobiographies in the third person. Yes, I have a great deal of respect for Ethan – because he’s doing what he loves. More importantly, he gets to work with one of his all-time favorite bands (R.E.M.). I wonder if Weird Al is hiring?

Monday Night Live

Last night, on our way home from dinner, I asked Ponzi if she’d come on cam to say hi to everybody who was tuned in. I told her there were probably 100 people in there and she said there probably wasn’t. We quickly discovered the chat room count sitting at 79, so she dismissed me and went about her nightly business. I told the chat room that Ponzi wouldn’t return unless we had at least 100 people in chat.

Logitech is both Good and Bad

Remember how I was looking for a keyboard the other day? Well, I did purchase a Logitech diNovo Edge. The hardware was amazing, but the software was beyond lousy. After a couple of BSODs and workflow hiccups, I decided to uninstall the SoB and take ‘er back to the store. My friend, Jeff Partridge, had this to say about the peripheral:

Busy Week in SF

My goodness, where does the time go? I’ve been sucked into this “live” Web vortex, and I don’t see myself emerging from it anytime soon. I’m getting done everything I need to get done, but it’s happening differently now. I’m thinking about things differently now.

How not to Pitch Venture Capitalists

As more social bookmarking and tagging sites (like Technorati or del.icio.us) come online, it will become increasingly important to unveil results from all of them on a single page. TagJag has been doing this from day one, and more search providers are added on a regular basis. Steve Rubel, in his blog post titled ‘Search the Universe, Not Just the Galaxies,’ says: “There’s gold to be had for the provider that can scale to include every major social network. I would bank on folks like TagJag.”
