My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors

Jeff Barr discovered a rather nifty service yesterday. At first, I thought it was designed for Moxy Fruvous fans – given that its name is Frucall. This is another great mobile-centric app that will connect you with potentially better pricing for products when you're out and about. A few weeks ago, we were in Whole Foods (buying FruitStix and organic meat). We happened to need a teapot at the time, and couldn't tell whether or not they had a good deal on one. I was able to use Gada.be to get through to general information, but ultimately decided that if it was in Whole Foods, it was certainly overpriced. Had I known about Frucall, I'd have given them a shot. “Frucall will search online stores, such as Amazon, for new and used prices.” I have to enter an ISBN/EIN barcode number to get the information, but it's better than not knowing or guessing incorrectly. Sometimes you just need to save a few bucks, right?

A New Kind of Cast

The Internet is the ultimate gateway for voyeurism. Just about everything that I put online can be seen by everybody (although not everybody has time to take in what I have to share). Would you ever want me to broadcast my computer screen across the infobahn? Perhaps not, but… that idea didn't stop VNCCasts from launching. As a geek, you're likely familiar with VNC – Virtual Network Computing. Now, instead of connecting to a known machine, you can sit back and watch a relatively unknown person do untold things on his/her screen. I actually thought about doing something like this a while ago, but… didn't. Someone else did, and now it's time to reap the fruits of their labor. VNC is essential for our home network's operation – but now VNC can be fun, too.

The Internet Clipboard is Here

I admit, I was a little dumbfounded when I first saw cl1p.net – that's a C and an L, the number 1 and a P. It's so simple, it's complicated – and it's so great, it's worth checking out. Nothing to download, nothing to install, easy to use, easy to remember (well, I might've chosen a domain without a numeral in it). Here's the gist: you have a bit of text or a file to copy from one computer to another – any system to any other system that's connected to the Internet somehow. You enter a unique subdirectory of cl1p.net, let's say it's http://cl1p.net/review – go ahead and try that one. I upload or paste just about anything I want to transfer, then visit the same URL (or share the same URL) from another machine. No wacky FTP stuff here! So, now I've shared that unique URL with you (and the world) – so my sharable data is sitting there for the taking. Sure beats the hell out of relying on IM file transfer windows, eh?

Two More Influencers Get Gada.be

Buzz: “I just had this eurkea moment, which is probably what Chris P. intended. Now when I blog about someone or something using BlogJet, I can simply use Gada.be to get links related to the person or idea, and anyone clicking on the link will get vastly better results “in contextâ€Â? than just garden variety linking.”
Steve Rubel: “There's gold to be had for the provider that can scale to include every major social network. I would bank on folks like Gada.be. Expect Google to make moves here as well. There's a much bigger picture here than just blogs.”
Bingo, boys – BINGO.
