Two Weeks in – Twenty Pounds to Go

Today, my 20-pound countdown begins! I stepped on the scale at 165.0 after working out this morning. I'm inching closer to my goal of 145.0; slow and steady wins the race. More importantly, when entering my weight into Calorie King's Nutrition and Exercise Manager software, it's given me a BMI of 27. This is notable only because my starting BMI was 29 (at 174ish). Anything 25 and above is considered overweight – and anything 30 and above is considered obese. I was one point away from being obese for the first time in my life. Yikes. I won't be “normal” until I hit my target weight. Here's where it pays to be patient and proactive.

Marc Nathan of Bulldog Financial on Jambo and Investing

Marc Nathan spoke at the 2005 SXSW on angel investing, which he does via his firm Bulldog Financial. In 2006, Chris discovered Marc thanks to new human discovery app Jambo. The application works on both Windows and Mac computers providing a way to discover people in your general vicinity who might have similar interests or share something in common. Apparently Marc and Chris decided they needed to meet, although the interview doesn’t disclose exactly why. You can hear more about Jambo, what it’s like to do business in Texas, and Marc’s latest investment in podcasting company Podcast Ready.

Poetry Slam and Slam Planet at SXSW

SXSW Interactive overlaps with the more traditional SXSW music and movie festivals and there are tons of additional events slated. Poetry Slam is part of the festivities this year, featuring Slam poets from around the world gathering together to for the most energetic poetry the world has to offer. Also debuting at this year’s event is the Slam Planet documentary, which features some of the best of the Slam Poets. Chris manages to fit both a great conversation about slam and a reading of a poem that’s sure to stir up trouble in the cereal aisle.
