I Steal Music!!!

Oh boy. I just discovered TMBG has a MySpace page with more free MP3s. I downloaded the ones I could - then proceeded to their Web site to purchase their Venue Songs album in MP3, as well as the double-disc DVD/CD set. Guess I spent over $30 today after “stealing” some music that they put online for free. When is the music industry going to get it!? If you produce fantastic material and let us get to it easily, we'll pay for all of it. At least, the true fans of the music will do so. I support They Might Be Giants, and they've given me so much over the years that paying for their music is the least I can do to support the band. So, I guess I “steal” music - and then I pay for more. What's not to understand here?

I guess when you talk about teenagers that do not have money..it is easier for them to steal.

Of course they WON'T get it for next couple of years, probably. Even though more and more artists willingly share their music, there always will be a (official) public opinion that sharing goods for free = stealing. But, tell me, if you had no chance to listen to an album before you buy it (can't download mp3, radio station didn't buy the rights too, or you simply don't listen to radio (like me)) - how could you know that you want it?
And talking about teenagers without enough money - here, in Poland, one good album usually costs 60zl which is about $20. Personally I found it really a lot, my family doesn't have much money and I rarely have that much cash at once - and when I do, there are many other things i need too. If those CDs were twice cheaper - sure I would buy some from time to time, there are albums that I'd really love to have… But seems like the companies prefer to have high prices and little customers…

When is the computer industry going to rise up and sue the music industry for “stealing” their method of digital storage?

TMBG also has a podcast, take a look for it.

Some streams from MySpace are not so easy to record. Luckily there are RTMP stream recorders. You may find them at

i do that too, i download some new song, and at the end i buy the album. Becasue I just lov it,i think there is some spirit that came out from the musician that.. undescribable and just attract us, but for those i dislike …will never look for it.
