Two Weeks in - Twenty Pounds to Go

Today, my 20-pound countdown begins! I stepped on the scale at 165.0 after working out this morning. I'm inching closer to my goal of 145.0; slow and steady wins the race. More importantly, when entering my weight into Calorie King's Nutrition and Exercise Manager software, it's given me a BMI of 27. This is notable only because my starting BMI was 29 (at 174ish). Anything 25 and above is considered overweight - and anything 30 and above is considered obese. I was one point away from being obese for the first time in my life. Yikes. I won't be “normal” until I hit my target weight. Here's where it pays to be patient and proactive.

Yikes. I don't know my exact weight (now I need to go find out), but based on my last estimate it seems my BMI is just shy of 29.
The free BMI calculator I found says I should weight at most 165! Which means I've probably got 20-25 pounds to lose by their standards.

Good luck to you! I also started my diet 2 weeks ago as I was horrified by my weight gain that brought me to the same BMI as you. I joined Weight Watchers and I'm doing the Online Points program. I lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks, but put 2 back after spending a “romance weekend” in Niagara Falls with hubby ;-)
Anyway, I was so motivated to start that I even posted my pissed off “Before” pic and an entire rant because people were calling me “pretty skinny people” still. You can read it here if you're not too afraid to get grossed out. Hehe.

*puts down the donut*
im actually getting a bike so i can haul it around with me in my truck, and save a bit on gas instead of making small errands. oh yeah and loose a few pounds.

WEight loss high on the Google Adsense this month?
;-)
But serious, good luck. Just eat sensibly, no bad snacks and try and up your excerise.
Thats what I did and I lost 20 KG (but I have a lot to lose).

Good luck with the weight loss. Years ago, my niece told her overwieght hubby-to-be that if he didn't lose 20 pounds she wouldn't marry him. He definitely was a sleek, handsome groom, and he has kept most of the wieght off for the 15 years they've been wed.

I lost 60 pounds in the last year. Went on the Atkins diet and went to aqua fit 4 times a week. The pounds just peeled off and I have 15 more to go.
My god, my old Blue Jeans FIT ME AGAIN!!
So hang in. The slower you lose it the longer it will stay off.

Chris, don't get sucked into the BMI scale. It can be very misleading to use as it doesn't measure overall fitnes. I am 5'10″ and weigh in at 180 lbs. According to my BMI analysis, I am overweight. I wear size 34″ waist pants that fit loose, have a resting heart rate in the mid 60's, and run about 30 - 35 miles a week. Should I lose another 30 lbs to be in the 'normal' range? I don't think so. Through my teen years I weighed in at 170 - 175 and looked great. I don't think I would ever want to weigh 150 lbs as I would be quite thin. I am normally healthy looking as my body type is more mesomorphic.
Anyway, try being more healthy instead of trying to fall into your BMI range and you will be healthier for it. Exercise your cardio, and muscular and you will feel better, and look better. Just because someone is thin doesn't make them healthy.
Good luck.
