Or so says Lee Thomas, a network admin: “Wife and I are both 57, and over years have tried many things to lose weight, with what success we had always being temporary. I kind of fell into something last year, though, that seems to be working. And don't call it a diet, cause I don't think that's what we are doing. Went to dentist for checkup and got reamed by the hygenist for not taking better care of my teeth. Since I have poor memory skills, I decided to form a new habit, that of brushing immediately after every meal. Which led to not eating between meals or after supper. Know what? I started losing weight. I decided to add to that by controlling portion sizes (cutting back, just a little) and trying to walk 3 or 4 days a week on my lunch hour, for 20 minutes. Both wife and I have lost 35 pounds doing this. We still eat Pizza when we want it, have a beer, I eat biscuits and gravy for an occasiional meal (I AM from Alabama), etc. Point is, we aren't counting carbs or calories, we eat anything we want, just a little less, and I have a desert or a drink only once or twice a week. So, don't call it a diet, per se, but as a relatively painless weightloss program, it is working great, at least for us. Again, YMMV.”

IIRC, brushing right after meals is actually BAD for your teeth, as you brush away the protective layer. There should be at least 30 mins after a meal before you brush. But I could be wrong.

I found that braces have a similar effect, especially with rubber bands. It's such a pain to take care of your teeth when you have braces, that it makes me slightly less interested in eating. Rubber bands are supposed to be worn anytime I'm not eating, and they are a pain to attach, so that's yet another reason not to eat.
I've lost about 20 pounds in the past 9 months, since I got braces. I've also stopped biting my nails, a habit I've had for as long as I can remember. Not that I'd recommend braces as a dieting tool or habit-breaking technique (more of a very expensive torture device, I think).

I agree completely. Once I brush my teeth I do not want to eat anything else. It helps to brush right after eating.

I agree totally. This is just day 4 in my braces and my mouth is sooo sore that it is a real burden to eat anything, especially if I have to chew. So applesauce and jello have been on the menu. I was wondering if folks with braces lose alot of weight…I guess I have the answer to my question.

also brush your teeth if you are craving something sweet it helps a bit, and i got braces 3 years ago when i was 14 and it hurt to eat so much i lived off soup. So i lost 7 kilos (15 pounds) in 3 weeks. but when it stopped hurting i gained it back.
