Reaching More Readers Over and Over

For Web publishers of all sizes, from bloggers to media outlets, getting the word out about what you’ve written is a continual challenge. A few stories syndicated to a big portal site like MSN or Yahoo may be all it takes to take an audience of 2 and turn it into an audience of 2 million. The syndication gateway for many of the bigger sites is Moreover.com. The good news is, you don’t have to be a big media outlet for Moreover to pick up your content and syndicate it to partner sites – all you need to do is write compelling stuff. Of course, you also need to let Moreover know you’ve written something by pinging their server, but that’s a trivial matter in the land of Pingomatic. At SES we caught up with Jim Pitkow of Moreover to talk about their role in the content syndication landscape.

Making Money with Free Press Releases

The press release remains the most popular method for announcing a new product or service to the world. Using PRWeb, you get instant distribution to tens of thousands of information aggregators via the Web and RSS. Even if you’re on a shoestring budget, the barrier to entry remains low because PRWeb does not require any fee in order to send out a press release to the many viewers who check in for the latest updates. We caught up with PRWeb founder, David McInnis to find out how giving away service for free translates into several hundred thousand press releases indexed on search engines and a revenue model to support a small company.

Lockergnoming

Driving traffic to a server… that's Lockergnoming. Has been since 1996. Well, I've put a new twist on the word – and am setting out to define it further. Witness what happened the other day in one of my entries:

Boost Web Traffic with RSS

Stephan Spencer kicks off his interview with a bold statement: “RSS isn’t about blogs, it’s about a new content delivery channel, one that should revolutionize the way we receive information.” This immediately followed a panel where Spencer proselytized RSS and it’s roll in driving content back to your Web site. While something taking place off the radar of the major search engines (syndicated content) may not seem like an obvious choice for inclusion in a conference covering search engine strategies, Stephan Spencer makes it abundantly clear why RSS is one component of your traffic strategy you definitely should not forget.

Really RAD Video Tools

Without the RAD Video Tools, I'd be stuck with Quicktime movies instead of Xvid, DivX, and WMV files. Seriously, you can convert just about any kind of audio or video file with ease – and this sweet li'l tool also happens to be free. It's unobtrusive, relatively straightforward, and fast. For any kind of conversion, I'd suggest starting with the raddest freeware around:

The Next Star War

Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Find the latest Star Wars Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith Trailer (the one that played on the OC tonight). Out of all three of the Prequel trailers I've seen, this one shows the most promise. It actually looks and feels *RIGHT* for a Star Wars movie. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the movie, indeed, will not disappoint. We were overjoyed when the Phantom Menace hit the screens, and almost lost that New Hope after watching it. When Attack of the Clones attacked our sensibilities, I was disillusioned with George Lucas's ability to write, direct, or produce anything. Watch the OC trailer and you'll wonder why III wasn't I. Finally, we get some freakin' SciFi action around this Star Wars galaxy of ours! Please, please, PLEASE let this redeem my faith. Otherwise, my Darth Vader figurine collection will be worth less than a womprat (which I used to bullseye with my T-16 back home, and they were no bigger than two meters). Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars…
