Help Katrina Victims

One of my friends is trying to get the Craigslist postings re: Katrina victims posted and announced through as many sources as possible. As you look at these listings he's included, you will find there are enormous resources available to victims of the Katrina hurricane - but no one knows about them unless they know about Craigslist. He's finding offers for all types of assistance are getting posted from all over the world. The sooner this information can get pushed out there, the less the effect of this devastation should have upon the Katrina victims.
He asks me to help. I'm helping.
Housing - there are enormous amounts of free housing offers for Katrina victims here.
Community Board - There are hundreds of postings of survivors looking for info on relatives and others as well as offers for free housing and offers to help.
For Sale - Lots of listings for free housing, free items for Katrina victims.
Services - Professionals offering their services for free for the Katrina-effected areas.
I'd watch out for poachers and evildoers, even on Craigslist. If there's looting and polluting going on in Nawlins, you can assume the same thing can and will happen online. Seriously, now is not the time to let your guard down. I hope all of my readers who have endured hurricane Katrina are (and remain) safe.

Thanks, man. :o)

For those trying to offer housing to Katrina victims (who BTW cannot view your offers for help due to lack of Internet access), they should register at the National Emergency Resource Registry found at https://www.swern.gov/emergency/asset_index.php. It's a database used by emergency response people to locate services/materials being offered. They will contact YOU if your offer is needed/accepted.

hi folks i'm loking for a place to donate clothing, blankets etc but as of now salvation army or red cross does not want this stuff. I deliver packages in two countys in montana not a rich area but we would like to do our part and that isn't money at this time. If anyone has any ideas of who to contact I'd really like to get some stuff out to those who could use it. Please leave a message here or email me at ed.b@mtintouch.net thanks and good luck to all the survivers and I'll be praying for you all.

I am located in Southern California. I am also looking for a way to get clothing and blankets to to Katrina victims. Any suggestions, email me at vanharenfamily@yahoo.com.

Maybe you could have a “Rent-my-chest-a-thon” and donate the proceeds to a disaster relief charity. Or have you already thought of that?

Our govt. is so screwed up,I have 3 children(over 18) who are still living there and they keep asking me “Dad, when are you coming home? I have to tell them ” Where would I live? we don’t have a home anymore and being as I’m disabled, all I get whenever I think I’ve finally got a phone no. of someone, and all they do is “PASS THE BUCK” I’ve been looking for a way home for almost 2 yrs. Give my thanks to Gov.Blanco and Pres. Bush PS I parked my 2000 Ford F-150 with about $1000. Dollars of tools at the B.R. Airport and they had it towed (which is understandable) and the towing co. RoadRunner Towing and Storage SOLD IT!!!! and I have yet to see my money,I wrote to Sen Ken Hollis and he told me I should get a lawyer!

The day after the September 11th attacks was my 18th birthday. Seems like ever since then some horrific entity is slapping me in the face and laughing. After that the tsunami hit, killing a quarter million people, and 2 days before September again Katrina hits. Just as i got my life together, a condo on the beach in long beach, ms. Right past gulfport and biloxi. Not only was i so high on life and running my own business back then through local connections, things were seemingly perfect at age 22. Then, that wretched smell of death hurricane took everything i know in a single day. It truly was impressive in all aspects. We wen’t from living in the US to a third world country, except with less water and food. This is the least of my problems, as 2 years later me and my family have incurred a host of truly sad problems. I’m not one to yearn for pity, but it is as if the most genius of all persons planned this storm and the events to follow so maticulously and purposefully. It was indeed, error-proof. To this day, i have lost any type of financial success, i dread going to sleep because of the recurring nightmares, and my family whom was once so so close, are distant strangers. I am a broken person. There was no assistance given, redcross and fema are truly laughable, and i hope nobody buys into them, because i was on ground zero for ever, stayed in camps after, and i never saw a single thing done. Wait, they all gave us a credit card with 200 dollars on it.. as if there WAS a place to spend money at the time. This was the only assistance i got from the hurricane. Insurance companies refused to pay, huge lawsuits ensued, yet will not finalize for years to come. What is a person like me supposed to do? I have zero opportunities to even attempt to capitalize on. I feel like Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cookoos Nest. All that wasted talent, all that personality and depth to give back to society in a positive manner. I used to light a room up when i walked into it. Now, there are no rooms to be lit. I won’t ask for help, because the only help that would work is personal help. I still haven’t figured out why a person wants to donate to these large various sects, rather than to pick a specific individual out and change a single persons life entirely, something proof positive. They would seem entirely more satisfying to me, but that is me.

Sincerely,

Michael Joshua Logan

Just Another Girl

My name is Courtney, I’m a resident of Gulfport, MS and My family and I were ‘victims of Katrina’…but did not endure as much damage as most. I have always been a firm believer in that “everything happens for a reason”. Though the storm has destroyed most of what we’ve all loved, or ever even known for that matter…it’s given many people a second chance at success. There is always going to be the person that blows the money they were given on needless materials, but some took it as a blessing.. a new beginning. I’ve witnessed quite a few people around me that were able to put their kids in a better school, some invested in a better home.

Katrina, for me, was an eye-opener. I’ve been through a few storms before this…but none have phased my life as much. I’m living my life day by day now, when I see someone in need of something, I do everything in my power to help. I recently got back into the arts and started painting again. I will be donating a few of my paintings to a silent auction, in which the proceeds with be given to families greatly affected by Katrina.

With all of that said… I’d like to share a quote with readers:
“Repair someone today… if not… yourself.”

Thanks-
