A CMS for Audio Stuff

I think someone was looking for this the other day:

Loudblog is a sleek and easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS) for publishing audio content on the web. It automatically generates a skinnable website and a feed for Podcasting. Just upload your audio files, add some notes and links, and you're done! There are a variety of ways to put your audio content into the system. You can upload it via your browser, use a free FTP client like FileZilla or – get the files from the Web!

…but I can't remember who needed it?

Blogging From 30,000 Feet

WiFi at 30,000 feet seems pretty cool until you realize it’s just like WiFi at the coffee shop or WiFi at home. The boss can still track you down and you better be prepared to answer those emails piling up in your inbox before you touch down for the evening “meeting” with that client you’re entertaining. As one of the lucky few to take part in a Boeing test flight complete with Connexion wireless Internet service, Chris got a chance to interview other passengers and some of the Boeing crew. After testing the limits of the connection with Skype, Audioblog.com and video iChat sessions, along with more mundane IM and chat sessions, this goes beyond cool and steps into the realm of one fewer place where workers have an excuse to be less productive. In my opinion, the killer feature of these Connexion enabled planes isn’t WiFi, it’s the power outlet for every seat.

My 32nd Birthday

32 birthdays leading to the room where the paint doesn't want to dry; 32 birthdays running down the road where the dirt reaches the sky; 32 birthdays in my brand new Indian headdress; 32 birthdays shining in 32 skies. What's the reason, why'd I go? Where's my PC, I don't know. 32 birthdays, counted them myself, 32 birthdays. Bing bang bingalong, sing sang singalong, ding dang dingalong (birth)day – I've got everything I could ever want, babe.

I Need a Word

What do they call it when you sneeze through your hand and accidentally spray small globs of spit onto your monitor, see them turn your screen into a random mish-mash of polka dotted rainbows, only to have every colorful point evaporate quickly because your LCD is running too hot?

Xbox 360

After a few rounds of getting my ass handed to me in Halo 2 with friends the other day, I'm starting to look forward to getting the Xbox 360. Not because I enjoy losing, mind you. The next-gen Xbox aims to be a great gaming machine with visuals that are out of this world. I watched a few of the following trailers last night, but none of them excited me half as much as 'Ghost Recon 3.' Project Gotham Racing 3 looked amazing, too. Every other title trailer seemed to be a copycat, a boring sequel, or a sports game – none of which I'm interested in playing. I have a feeling that current Xbox units are going to find their way into secondary entertainment rooms soon enough. The Xbox acts as a hackneyed Media Center Extender, but I'm certain the Xbox 360 will sell many MCE machines for Microsoft.

Interview with Andru Edwards

On the day GearLive.com got hammered with traffic following a story about beating a traffic ticket with the help of Google Maps, we were joined in studio by Andru Edwards. Edwin, the author of the story, joined via phone. Throughout the course of the show, Andru talks about the Brain Cell he got from Tom Bihn, many of his own favorite gadgets, the recent Grand Theft Auto controversy and a whole lot more. Toward the end of the segment news breaks about Longhorn now being Windows Vista.

MSN Virtual Earth: Oops.

According to ActiveWin this morning, MSN has silently launched their MSN Virtual Earth product. Naturally, I rushed over there to give it a spin. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with Maxthon. Seems like an oversight… as both Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps work fine in the same browser with the same settings. I've already submitted a bug… and I'm hoping that it'll be fixed soon, by either one of the two product teams. Sorry, Scoble…
UPDATE: Apparently a malconfigured setting on my end was causing the problem. Total PEBKAC! Things seem to be working fine now. Between MSN Virtual Earth and Google Maps, I'll never need Streets & Trips again.

Interview with Nat Torkington at Where 2.0

Where 2.0 brought a number of important conversations about mapping and geo-location under one roof. One of the key people making it happen is Nat Torkington of O’Reilly, who played gracious host for both days of the event. Chris talked briefly to Nat at the end of the first day about his vision for the conference and what the future holds for mapping. Following the conversation with Nat, Chris talks to John Frank of MetaCarta, a company doing some seriously cool stuff with organizing documents by the locations discussed in the documents. MetaCarta currently serves the corporate markets and government agencies with geo-location intensive research, but the possibilities for using MetaCarta as a tool for enhanced localization information are also a key topic in this interview.

Become a Beauty and The Geek Contestant!

I just got this voicemail from a show producer for 'Beauty and the Geek.' I'd make a better host than a contestant, wouldn't you agree? Methinks you should give her a call, and let other geeks know how they can make it onto the next show. Just let 'em know that I sent ya. M'kay?

Microsoft Windows Vista

It's official: Longhorn is Vista, Vista is Longhorn. I think I could've come up with a better name than what is clearly defined as… “a distant view or prospect.” Or perhaps that title is VERY fitting? Okay, Vista it is – but what could it have been instead?

Become a Beauty and The Geek Contestant!

Look, folks – I’m enjoying Beauty and the Geek (just like the rest of you), but I am not like Richard in any way. Two people have made this innocent juxtaposition, but it’s just flat-out wrong. He’s the lanky guy who has no social skills. First, I’m not lanky – I was husky in junior high. And while I enjoy Richard’s over-the-top mannerisms, I have a completely different style. Richard has never kissed a girl, and I nailed my first smooch in the second grade. My ears also don’t stick out half as far. I may be a geek, but I guess I’m not a total geek. The guys on this show are closer to nerds, IMHO. And these beauties are truly beauties, but I’ve known much better beauties who also happen to have brains (present company included). Beauty and the Geek hits too close to home.
