Is Your Name Not Bruce?

Okay, the experiment is officially over; you can go back to being yourselves here (as of right now). Which one was I? The one who was myself - not the Alpha, not the Omega, not even the Tau Kappa Epsilon. I guess, most of all, I wanted to break the trend of personal belief bashing around these parts. You can claim to be me, but you're still not - just as I am not you. We're all each other, individuals… except for that one guy.

MT Comments Experiment

Okay, everybody out there in blogland, here's an open invitation to post whatever the hell you want in the comments thread of *THIS* particular entry. The ONLY requirement is that you post as ME. So, use *MY* name (Chris Pirillo), *MY* e-mail address (chris@pirillo.com), and *MY* blog address (which, in case you're too to have noticed, is chris.pirillo.com/). At the end of the day, everybody has to guess who the *REAL* Chris Pirillo is. So, go ahead - post as “me,” and then guess who “I” am. All non-me comments will be deleted and banned permanently, so play by the rules or GTFO. This experiment is only valid for this entry.

Baby, I love you -

Baby, I love you - but I need you to understand that I'm not operating on Eastern Standard Time. UPDATE: She's been moblogging like a mofo today… and I'm wide awake now.

Orange You Glad?

I was exchanging e-mails with the gnew Gnomedex coordinators this morning, and we found our way into this interesting tidbit: “According to the color nazi [yes, it is a group in NYC who decide what the next colors will be for the fashion world - also for cars and all design folks] orange became 'hip' in the late 90s as the color that represented the merging energies of the Eastern spirituality and Western Emotions and so one world. Prior to that, it was primarily associated with fast food and cheap restaurants. Pretty good rating jump don't ya think?!” Yeah, I still remember going to Sambo's when I was a kid before they shut it down because of its racially-offensive name. And lord knows, Denny's and Perkins (which has since gone green) still have that whole trippy feel to 'em. Nazis, racism, abortion… is there anybody else I can piss off today? Now, if you'll pardon me, I'm off to catch up on my QE4TSG.

I Be Proud

You know, I don't talk about her much online (only because I respect her right to anonymity), but I'm really proud of what my girlfriend is doing this weekend. She's far from a militant, but she flew to Washington DC tonight to march for Women's Lives this Sunday. She's not even THAT political, so this decision kinda shocked me. Still, I support her rights and belief system. I'm not very happy with the way everybody learned about her, either; she deserved a better introduction. Those who know her know her well. Those who don't… are certain to post something innane in the comments thread. UPDATE: Here's the official Web site. Oh, and I never post comments on my own blog. Y'all need to chill.

I'm Going to be on NBC Tonight!

Thanks to Deb for notifying me via IM! Apparently, they're running the Helpathon clip that went viral tonight, on NBC's The Most Outrageous Moments on Live TV! Ha! Well, it's better than a kick in the pants.

Not in Spain

So, apparently, there's a band… from America… named Barcelona. They're no longer together, but when they were crankin' out the tunes, they recorded “I Have The Password To Your Shell Account.” Wow. That's pretty darn geeky. Their style totally reminds me of another semi-favorite of mine, FreezePop. Props to a new friend, Scott, for pointing the way. Actually, I don't know if I can call him a friend yet, but I'm totally in love with his Special Edition LP set of The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. He must trust me, as he lent me one of his Barcelona CDs. Or did he? Because, to my knowledge, Lent is over.

Gnomedex 4 Blogroll

Per my entry here, we officially have a blogroll for attendees. For those of you wondering who's presenting and who's sponsoring… those details should be available extremely soon. Believe me, I know that's very important information - but it certainly hasn't stopped a few folks from pre-registering! Heh… and I didn't even change the code in my sidebar (which is in serious need of updating, anyway). Soon, soon. Time, time.

Ed Russell started a petition

Ed Russell started a petition that (overnight) has gathered ~200 signatures. Sure, that's just a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but I have to appreciate the sincerity of the people out there. To quote an ol' wine cooler-weilding dude: “Thank you for your support.” I don't think anybody's gonna march on Washington any time soon, but…

Easiest $180 I Ever Made

I don't use my business or personal AmEx cards all that often, so I called to cancel both of 'em this morning. The representative came back with a rather unexpected offer: “If we credit your corporate account $150, would you keep it alive?” Uh, yeah. I should cancel these things more often, man. He transfered me to the personal account management division and I pulled the same sob story on the fresh meat CSR. She returned: “If I offered you $30…” Awww?! Well, something was much better than nothing. The moral of the story is: I'm going to cancel these things every couple of months (or, at least, threaten to). Think Superman will ever catch on?

Quick Thoughts

Back from taping. Amazing. Had an absolute blast. Shows went great. Old friends were just as friendly. Can't wait to see the results in a couple of days. Read Dancing Barefoot en route; inspired me to do something similar. Thanks, Wil.

Answering a Very Important Call

It's been a few hours beyond 365 days since I last hosted Call for Help on TechTV. That streak is about to be broken. I've been invited to “fill in the blank” for a couple of non-live shows on Monday; these recordings will air on Wednesday and Thursday. My schedule was clear, my mind was ready, and my heart is willing. There has been much speculation as to what happened to me - even though most Gnomies know that I've been here all along, long before the first ZDTV broadcast. I don't know if I'll be asked to help them again in the future, but I'll welcome this opportunity (and any others) with open arms. Take it for what it is: another chance to say 'hello' to millions of old friends. No doubt, this bit of news will shock a few faithful viewers, but I'm doing what I can do to ensure that the show (proverbially) goes on until Leo can return. I promise to cut my coffee consumption in half that morning, just to be on the safe side. Not nervous, just very excited - overjoyed, actually. If you can tune in, please do. If you can send feedback, it's most welcome.

I'll probably photoblog my fingers off, since I won't be staying in SF for much longer than a day. I hate saying this because it sounds incredibly trite, but this is a dream come true. Yes, I've had nocturnal visions about returning to the set I once called 'home base.' Just for grins, I'll be active in the official CFH chat room when the episodes are first run - a luxury one host can afford when everything's produced to tape. Perhaps we'll be able to break a few records before all is said and done? They don't really make LPs anymore. I wonder if busting a cassette tape is just as good? Regardless, a fun time is set to be had by all involved. From director to production assistant, it takes a lot of hands to make one hour come off without a hitch. To some, I'll be a new face. To others, old hat. To everybody else, the same little guy who fell off a 14' camper when he was in the seventh grade. True story, and I've got the slightly-curved spine to prove it. I'd tell you more about that, but… I've got an overnight bag to pack. FYI, I'll be on David's show to talk about this whole thing in a few hours.
