The Pirillo Puzzle (Part I)

Have I gone into hiding? No, not really. As I've mentioned before, this year has been quite a tough one for me. In April, you might recall, TechTV and I parted ways. This coming Wednesday, you'll see my face on that channel again - if only for five minutes. John C. Dvorak and I were invited to be on their most risque show, Unscrewed, to talk about our new book. Tune in on Wednesdsay at 8:30pm PDT / 11:30pm EDT for a little more information. Yes - this was a one-time thing. I don't spill every one of the beans, but I share enough of 'em to answer at least 50% of the questions I've been receiving lately. Names get named and… we talk about other things that've been happening. The segment will be [unofficially] recorded and digitized for folks who can't tune in for the broadcast. I'll expand on a few of the finer points after it airs - which might turn out to be a novel, considering how much has been going on. Oh, and… I've been working on setting up a blog for Mr. Dvorak, too.

That's pretty amazing considering how often he disses the medium (whether at Gnomedex or in PC Magazine).

happened to check Leo's blog site Thursday night and was surprised to find that he mentioned Chris' Rent My Chest site (11 Dec, Item #8 leo.typepad.com/tsn/). I don't know if Chris' separation with TTV was amiable amongst the staff members, but… it was just interesting to see a mention back nonetheless…

Well, since I parted company with TTV and digital cable at the time of and in rebellion of your forced departure, Chris, I'll not be seeing you there. I will be trying with more great effort to follow your antics here. You're a tuff nut to crack. How big of a download will your featurette be? Hopefully not too much of a strain on my feeble dialup and my already strained patience. Good luck with all the bad mojo you've been having and stay positive…cheezy mustache, huh. Next thing we'll come to find out you've got porn sites on your servers…

I'm married, I haven't been wearing a ring for the last month, since it went missing in my brother's car.
The point is, people are harshing on Chris, and attacking Gretchen, when it's not even anyone's business except theirs, what's going on.
You know what, if something bad/sad or elsewise has happened to their relationship, STFU and keep your nose outta it, OK?
*If* something bad has happened, it's probably hard enough without some idiotic websurfer's ad hominem attacks.
Give them a little respect, eh?

Is that all people are gonna do? Judge Chris' private life? Will that keep people from checking in, “if” he got a divorce? I don't think it's anyone's business, however, he does have a public blog and always gives some details of his private life. I think it was Gretchen who made mentioned that posting to a blog could get you into trouble with work and your personal life. True friends whether they are friends with one or both of them will ALWAYS be friends. I've never rubbed shoulders with Chris, only brief emails passed between us, but I consider him a friend, at least in the online sense. I would never discuss what I talked with Chris about in our emails, nor would I reveal anything he may have said, because I value even the slightest friendship as sacred. Let Chris say what he wants, WHEN he wants.

my how things change…
Excerpt from Lockergnome archives:
This is quite an interesting story (and this description is nowhere near complete). It all started when I (Chris) spied her (Gretchen) from across the room. She was wearing this crappy, old fedora and looking rather cute. I summoned up enough chutzpah to start a conversation with her. Unfortunately, I was counting on my natural charisma to win her over. It didn't work.
For a short while I pursued her… but after she contended that she wanted to “play the field,” I set my sights on other women. Apparently, this made her jealous. She saw me hanging out with another girl at a party and thought I was doing it to taunt her. That wasn't my original intention, but you know how women are. (NOTE: Gretchen just hit me in the back of the head, for any feminist who has a problem with that last line)
We started dating on February 23, 1995 (I'm male so I can't remember the exact time). I was Gretchen's first REALLY serious relationship, whereas I had a few heartaches under my belt. That caused a bit of struggle in the beginning, but over a period of three years, we've come to know each other a little better.
Enter my putz-o phase. After a year or so down the road, I broke up with Gretchen (for a couple of reasons). Then we went out again. Then I broke up with her again. Then we went out again for a while. Then I broke up with her AGAIN. I'll admit that it was my stupidity which almost caused me to lose the dearest person in my life. I finally realized that it was my own fear of commitment that made me do the things I did to Gretchen.
Luckily, she took me back with open arms (how lucky can a guy get?) I've been doing my best to make her life as comfortable as possible… and letting her know (whenever I can) that she's the world to me. Hey–none of us are perfect, but if we can pool our imperfections then usually we make something a little closer to perfection. I've made mistakes that I cannot make again… one of those was ever believing that there could be someone better for me.
So we're about to head to her family's place for Thanksgiving 1997 and I told her that I wanted to take a few snapshots of the Twister site for Lockergnome. See, they filmed some parts of Twister in northern Iowa, and the site at the end of the movie is only 30 minutes away from Cedar Falls (where I live). We arrived there at about 7am (it was early because she had an appointment on the other side of the state at 10am). I said: “Gretchen, get me by the sign.” She took a picture of me by a sign. I said: “Hey G, get me here.” She did.
Then I said: “Okay, now get me over by the mailbox…” (see above picture) So, as I headed over to the mailbox, I pulled the ring out of my coat pocket and got down on one knee. She snapped the picture without even knowing what I was doing–her proposal! I cleared my throat a couple of times and she finally figured out what was going on. I asked her the question but I couldn't hear her answer (she was hugging me too tightly), so I asked her again and she said: “YES!” She drove home that morning, all the while staring at her new ring. I guess she was pretty happy.
I know I am.

If it's not, we may find out soon enough. Or maybe not.
All I know is that it was great to see Chris on tv again… I got a netcam call answered by him on TechTV a year or so ago, and I really miss seeing him on Call For Help.
Leo is ok, but Chris was much more knowledgable, IMHO. The one thing that both versions of Call For Help have in common is that Cat Schwartz does not deserve a show! What a bimbo!

Does Chris live in Encino, CA? It is strange to me. Two numbers that should be the same. They are 214 and 414. But, they are not. Could 414 have anything to do with J. I don't think so. I think it is Chris's number. And the other belongs to G. SAD. I am not going any further than that….

Just something to think about: I'm sure most people out there know somebody who's gone through a divorce or separation. Do you go up to these people and say “Tell me what happened, I want to know” ? Not likely, especially if it's not a close friend, but just somebody you know casually. It's facinating how interested people are in the details, and how they sound slighted because they havent been privy to a private matter. There's a simple reason why Chris hasn't said anythig … It's Private

SteelToad, I agree with what you're saying, but the fact is that Chris has been sharing details (and photos and videos) of his private life with us for years. So when we're suddenly shut out of what's going after being privy to so many things for so long, you just can't help but be curious.

Zeus, you are a complete moron. Why do you even waste your and our time by posting on here? If you knew anything at all, you would know that TechTV sought out Chris. Chris didn't ask them for a job. As far as them moving to L.A., you don't have any idea about that either. Just keep your yapper shut, because you are making yourself look like a stupid idiot. Knowing Chris and Gretchen, I'm sure that someone will address these issues in due time, not because they crave your attention, but because all the gnomies have been part of their family. The biggest thing to remember is that Chris and Gretchen are REAL PEOPLE with REAL EMOTIONS. If you want to be a jerk and have people not respect you, keep posting your uneducated and sophomoric comments. I'm also trying to understand why you would call yourself a freak…since you seem to be hanging around here quite a bit yourself.

Well first of all, I'm not a “little” anything. Secondly, I'm not defending Chris and his comments, actions, decisions, etc. as much as I'm trying to be a voice of reason against your insane Saddam-Bagdad-Bob-esque ramblings. You talk out your butt about things you don't know about and make it seem like you are the all-knowing king of the world. Guess what? Your're not . You are a scared whimpy loser who is too afraid to post your real identity and/or email address and not man, or woman, enough to do so. Any coward can take suprise terrorist attacks wearing masks and only take the credit if it succeeds. And yes, I am comparing you to a terrorist. Pathetic.

Chris, it was great to see you on TV again, if only for a brief moment. You really belong on television and Call For Help just hasn't been the same since your untimely departure. It's not that I hate Leo or anything; he's great for The Screen Savers, but he just doesn't work on CFH. There was something about the way you and Cat worked together, which probably had a lot to do with being the in same age group. You guys could relate to each other without Cat having to explain the “hip slang” people use today to a much older man. I hope that whatever channel you end up on is carried by my crappy cable service.

Since Chris left CFH, I tried to watch the show so that I won't be biased in my opinion but conclusion is:- CFH is going down hill. Change of theme song and colors on the set and logo etc will not help. Having a person trying to be funny(which Chris naturally is) and humming the theme song etc will not help. And why all the TSS crossover as a replacement? Brett Larson would have been a better choice of host, even Roger Chang with his technical knowledge could have done a splendid job. A Geek is lost replaced by a wooden log. `nuff said.
