Aye, Matey!

For the first time in what seems like eight years, I'm going to see a movie. 'Pirates of the Carribean' will have my full attention this evening. Myszka and I are flailing down two blocks to the new AMC megaplex. That oughta be an adventure worthy of getting scurvy seventeen times over. He'll get a bucket of popcorn. And that's not butter.

Black Hole Sun

I didn't think I'd have access to broadband for another two weeks, but (as luck would have it) I'm close enough to someone with an open Wi-Fi signal to use it with my laptop and/or desktop machine. I have their essid in hand, but that really does me no good. I'd just as soon meet IRL and pay them for enabling me to piggyback their signal. Instead of chancing it now, I'll wait until I'm set up on my own connection before making any introductions or writing any cheques. Oh, and my cell phone has absolutely no signal here. Bupkis.

Today's Riddle

I'm at home, but I'm not. I'm staying cool when it's hot. I'm sitting in my own parking space, not a lot. I'm online, in this spot. I see rocks, I see hills, but no beach and no frills. Who am I? And more importantly, WHERE am I?

Oops

To all the folks in New York City, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, and Ottawa: I'm sorry. I was testing a new super-computer and forgot to implement a power regulator. Hopefully, this accident didn't cause too much of an inconvenience for you?

Craig's List

If you're interested, I just posted this to one of SF's most popular online classified ad services: SBF Seeking New Sleeping Partner. Oh, it's no joke. We really need to get rid of it before too long. Some say eBay, but I say noWay; this is one of those items that would cost us more to ship than its actually worth.

Remembering Jean Luc

I've been to three or four Peet's in LA, and each one of them carries the same lame brand of heavy cream: Alta Dena. I must be allergic to something in it, because I get a massive headache hours after I ingest the stuff. Not only that, but the water down there seems to be… different. So, I've decided to go back to brewing at home. Turning to the Coffee Geek (known for his mobile misadventures), I learned that the Capresso MT500 was the machine to own. One now sits on our kitchen table, with better filters en route from another online store. Some would say I go too far with my addiction; I would say that some don't go far enough.

Let Sleeping Dads Lie

My dad is a sound sleeper. Even in his deepest slumber, nothing will wake him up – other than someone changing the channel. His unconscious mind loves watching Barney Miller and Gomer Pyle. I don't know how he does it, but I finally captured this phenomenon on camera. Kinda. What a parlour trick!

Accepting Rejection

Would someone please tell Christian Crumlish that his mail server is blocking my mail server? Ya know, I'm starting to believe that challenge-response is set to become the norm. I'm about THIS close to setting something up for some of my e-mail accounts, despite the annoyance it may place on the sender.

Gigantic Day

Went to see our first movie at the Castro Theatre, “Gigantic (a Tale of Two Johns).” It was good, and I believe that Courtney agrees with me. I just uploaded a set of Linux Wallpapers for those who hate what the SCO is doing. Instead of watching television, I've been scouring the Web for a few good 'Los Angeles' RSS feeds. I might have ice cream in a few minutes, too.

What is RSS?

I'm ready to roll out my latest effort, which was designed to help you understand just how RSS (and other syndication efforts) are continuing to change the way we access information online. The designer and I have been nipping and tucking code for the past few hours, so if you run into a bug / quirk, let us know and we'll get it squished ASAP. We're looking to fill Lockergnome's RSS Resource with as much help, tools, links, and news as possible. You're welcome to join us as a regular contributor or a content passerby.

Rock the Vote

I am Arnold's bitch. His slogan: “If you don't elect me, I will hunt you down and kill you.” He was THIS close to selecting Gary Coleman as his running mate, too. Who cares about his political beliefs, as long as he's still a box office draw. All a governor does is looks pretty for the crowds – and any opponents of Schwarzenegger is going to take a pounding. Literally. Hell, Iowa's can't even send a friggin' e-mail.

Number Cruncher

I took the 5. Tomorrow, I'll take it north. I won't be awake at 7 (like I was for the past 2 days). Veronica will most likely have 3 pots of coffee made by 6AM. With 4 pillows, 8 blankets, and 1 fan in the window, I'll sleep soundly. Wake me at 9. Or 10. 11 at the latest. I'm more of a night person.

Fellow Lion

Guess who turned another year older a few hours ago? The creator of Blogrolling.com – and consider upgrading your account as a present to the gift he's given your blog. Or, at least go over there and wish him a happy birthday. My cambud, Xeni, is also celebrating her special day (albeit, on a separate coast than Jason).

In The Car

Lunch first. Long drive to LA next. I'm rifling through our collection of compact discs, searching for the perfect set of road tunes to take with me. Yanni! John Tesh! Yoko Ono! I don't own any of these! Veronica is suggesting that I should take the 101 south, while Jason is steering me to the 5 – which is a faster route, but far less scenic. Ya know what? I've had my fill of boring journeys. While the trip may take another hour or two, I'd just as soon be awake for most all of it.
