And I quote: “The G5 is going to go to 64 bits, and it's going to change everything.” Excuse me, but what does this political pundit know about technology? Just because he can connect a USB cable to the back of his Mac doesn't mean he's qualified to tell me that a 64-bit hardware platform is going to change “everything.” It's a bullshit quote, and and I challenge him to tell me (and the rest of the world) WHY it's going to change “everything.” He makes it sound as though Apple has discovered fire or something. Please, Rush - you don't hear me talking about governmental policies that I don't understand. Methinks you've got a little PEBKAC going on.

Rush is an idiot, but whoever fed him that revelation on the G5 isn't. I do think the 970 based Macs will alter the landscape somewhat, if only to spur on PC advances.
It might spur on the used Mac market as well, lowering prices on G4s to the point that they begin to make sense as 2nd machines to “play around with”.
Aside from Macs, though, Rush blows.

I am not qualified to judge anything to do with the new Mac's being I have not used one since they first came out “way back when”. I am a moderate conservative, I am not into “whale loving or “pine cone eating”. But I have to agree that Rush needs to be better informed it would seem. (Never did like him) “Everything” seems a “little” broad to me. I dunno, then again Rush thinks he knows “everthing”. ;-)

I don't know… one Mac or another has been my “1st machine” for years now. (And, no, I'm a graphics guy.) The stuff I use to make my life easier on a daily basis is still a figment of my PC-using friend's imaginations. The price of a G4 or G5 is worth every penny… if not more.
As for Rush, he *is* a know-it-all. That's why he's still on the radio. If everyone agreed with him, his radio career would've been over before it started.

I agree Chris. I still fail to see how 64bit will change everything. Its also not like apple is doing something new here. I mean, Itanium has been out for a while now and AMD's 64bit is selling well. So how this will “change everything” is beyond me as well.
As for Rush, well, don't even get me started. Since I am a staunch anti-GOP person, (and no, I am not a dem, fwiw), Rush is the embodiment of everything that is horrible about the GOP. As far as I am concerned, he is one individual this world can do without. He needs to get with folks like Jerry Falwell, John Ashcroft, Osama bin Laden and take a long walk off of a short pier.
Now he is trying to comment on technology. He wouldn't know a ddr memory stick from a stick of juicey fruit if it sat on his fat, ugly, ******* of a face.

I watched the satellite feed of the World Wide Developers Conference where the C5 was announced. It seems that only the dual processor C5 is going to “change everything” the single processor version is still out performed by the P4s.

64 bit is the future, but how many apps. are currently written to be 64 bit compatible? The G5 suffers because it has be be backwards compatible with todays 32 bit programs. Still, if I was going to buy a PowerMac and money wasn't a concern, I'd probably get the latest and “greatest.”

I fail to see how it won't change everything. Granted he was being a bit hyperbolic, that's his job, but how does a 64 bit proc on the desktop not chnage a considerable amount? Before now if you wanted a 64 bit proc that wasn't really dead weight you'd have to build a PC and throw Linux on there. Adobe and other big names are going to optimize their apps for the 64 bit procs and I don't see PC manufacs allowing Apple to have this number over them for long. Glad to see you're on the RIGHT side Chris. but Im fan of http://www.lp.org myself.

Thomas - define what the “right” side is. Or you mena the “rich” side, because that is all Bush cares about. And, until you can prove to me that he has done something in his term for the middle class, than din't even bother to argue.
As far as 64 bit procs, pc manufacturers already have put their hardware out there, so I don't know what news you have been reading.
And since when is ir ******* Limbarfs “job” to be hyperbolic. I guess he has reserved that right in his and his sheeps mind as well? Face it, he is probably yhe single biggest reason people don't want to become republican - not that the GOP doesn't have enough convervative ******** to wipe.

I deal in facts too. Here is just ome example of how corrupt the GOP really is.
(I also find it very peculiar how quiet the media has kept this story as well) coinky dink? I think not - so much for the “liberal media” argument.

well i think G5 will change everything in a sense that every personal computer soon will start to convert to 64-bit computing. Its not that 'Apple has discovered fire' its more like 'Apple made the first GUI OS' :p

PC manufactures have been putting Opterons and to a lesser extent Itaniums in their SERVERS. Which means nil to the end user. Why have they been doing that? Because large amount of Data can utilize the bandwidth a 64 bit proc gives, and there aren't many larger forms of data than video and media, which Apple is renknown for. As far as the politics go, I meant right wing, I myself am a Libertarian, but the GOP is no more corrupt than the democrat party, and if you think otherwise, it is you I'm afraid, not Rush who is the idiot.

After re-reading Rush's article, it looks to me like he is repeating Apple's pitch. I don't think Rush is saying it will change everything, he says that Apple says these things.

Matt: I'm no zealot, but as I said above, it could spur on PC companies to rush their 64-bit offerings to the desktop at an accelerated rate (and/or at reduced price). With a large number of early adopters, 64-bit apps and OSes will be forthcoming. I don't think Apple will win over a large number of “switchers” until it is offered in a headless, sub-$600 box that will accept a standard VGA monitor. Apple once again has the chance to make a strong user base even stronger. I, for one, hope they don't blow it.

Why is it that liberals have to resort to name-calling? If you read what he said….you would see it is NOT him saying it. It was announced this week…it's going to change everything. He then mentions after a “-” that he doesn't understand why “that” technology isn't more mainstream.
Name-calling, telling people their computer is ****, their OS is **** and the like is very childish. Only the person who PAYS for and OWNS something and that WORKS for them is the only thing that matters.

Almost as childish as when conservatives label any dissenter as unamerican or compares senators (D's and R's) to Saddam and bin Laden because they don't agree with foolhardy tax cuts.
As for the g5, well I guess it could “change everything,” but will it get them into a double digit market share? Doubt it…besides, there will be some other tech advance sooner rather than later that will “change everything” again.

I love it. Because I am against everything the GOP does, I am a liberal. It seems every shittin' time anyone stands up against he GOP thet are liberals.
Let me make it easy on you - I am not a liberal. I am against the GOP because of what they represent. They are against everything that resides within the spirit of America - freedom.
Don't beleive me? http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030629/ap_on_go_co/frist_gay_marriage_3
As for the 64 bit in SERVERS statemant made my might Mac a few post up - what is the difference. Servers are no differewnt than desktops. They all have pretty much the same guts buddy. SO please step off with that weak argument.
Again, Apple isnt doing anything special or new here. And for anyone defending Rush Limbarf, that shows me how much brains they really have and arguing with them is pointless.

Hey Steve, great links above. Yeah, even though lobbying has been around for a couple hundred years, it is plain to see from that story on thefacts.com is irrefutable proof that those senators were paid off. Also, that evil Senator First, and that band of Republican thugs, how dare they propose a ban on *** marriage! (you and I both know that a constitutional amendment such that Marilyn Musgrave is introducing doesn't have a snowball's chance, so don't get your anal beads all in a bunch). Evil republican conspiracy be dammed!!!!
Seriously now, I don't agree with Republican policy 100%, but I feel it's in the right direction. I hate how someone like yourself who can be so open minded toward homosexuality and *** marriages, can be so close minded toward a differing viewpoint offered by Rush Limbaugh and narrow-mindedly call him childish names based on his appearance. You don't hear me walking around talking about Al Sharpton's huge gut, or Hillary Clinton's wide *** do you? When I hear liberal, moderate, and conservative policy, I tend to like to hear it out and form my own opinions about it. So look past others' opinions, go read the House and Senate resolutions for yourself, and dont regurgitate mindless, knee-jerk, tripe about Rush Limbaugh or the Commander In Chief.
And as for George Bush? Well, he's the only president who's given me a check for $1400 bucks, I'll tell you that much. Plus he has to build up America's defense against scalar electromagnetic weapons…. in secret, without us taxpayers knowing about it. Man, you want conspiracy? Here's your goddam WMD's: http://216.247.92.101/pub/bearden/scalar_wars.htm
I'm done with my rant, the 64-bit processor is going to triple the speed of the Photoshop 8 Gaussian Blur filter much to the delight of many Mac users…..little else.
