Inbox (Paul Witheridge)

Still can't figure out why you ignore Pegasus Mail. Not only will it
completely disable embedded scripts in e-mails by default and support
plugins which automatically invoke the virus scanner of your choice
whenever an attachment is saved, opened or viewed but will also allow
you to colourize – if that turns you on – as well as a host of other
things! Free, no ads, and SAFE! And one of the most user-configurable applications I've ever seen.

AOL Suing Microsoft

Grow up AOL and build a better browser. Then you wouldn't have to worry about who is the leader in browser software. You don't hear Opera crying or any of the other browser companies screaming; “UNFAIR, UNFAIR”. You know Opera makes a great browser (much better than Netscape in my honest opinion). What are you going to do when Opera grabs more of your market share? Are you going to sue them, too?

Illegal Operations

This blog was optimized for anything BUT Navigator. I don't care if you hate Microsoft – they still provide a better browser (read: end user experience) than Netscape ever did. I was ready to stop using Marc's creation when it was still in 2.x revisions. Microsoft's deployment of Internet Explorer hindered the growth and acceptance of Netscape's flagship product?! Dude! Even when they started to give it away, I wouldn't install it on any of my systems. It sucked. It still sucks. It (most likely) will continue to suck.

My Mom Needs Help

I have seen some systems advertised on TV in the $1,000 range that sound
pretty good, but I am not the expert. I would like a system that is
excellent on the Internet (surfing), e-mail, pictures (still and
moving), Webcam for talking and seeing you and Ben like when we were in Texas, as well as
doing worksheets (Excel), word processing (Word), accounting, and a
personal record keeping system (Quicken), and of course some of the
newer games. A scanner would be nice if I can figure out how to use
it. The system should be the fast, plenty of memory.
A new printer (easily switchable between B&W and color as needed), one
of those large monitors, and be good for the next 10 years. Do you
think we can get this all for around $55 or so? What do you really
think a better than above average system would cost?

Tuning In TechTV

It's finally official: Chris is coming home! Well, not in the physical sense, but at list [sic] he'll be arriving digitally in homes across the Des Moines area every Monday thru Friday. TechTV is going to be channel 294 on the Basic Digital Package from Mediacom. To think, we started that crusade before Chris had ever even considered the idea of being on television.

Pitching Ideas

What a wicked show. I thought it was a bit rough, but the producers believed it went smoothly. I was thrown off by the Althlon guy, but not to the point where I'll have to cry myself to sleep tonight. It's the time of the week where we think about what we want to do on the show in the near future. Gadgets, pets, surgery – not all in one show, of course. “Jog a Dog” (a treadmill for your pooch). Sprocket would go for miles and miles and miles and miles. Dogs make good television. Super-reflective sportswear for your pets works for me, too.

Sprocket now knows how to “play dead.”

A Mused

Zero is about out of battery juice. I plugged in his Webcam and pointed it toward the boob tube so that you could see what I've been watching all day. I might move him upstairs before I start his recharge cycle. My shaver is going through the same process, which would explain why I've had to hit snooze on my five o'clock shadow. Is it me, or are those TNN phone call promos a bit creepy? “I like watching Star Trek because I like to pretend that Deanna Troi is my girlfriend.” Ewwwww. I need another shower.

Little Poem

Loft clean. Gretchen gone. Sprocket silent. TV on. Screen clean. Coffee hot. Posture good. Weather not. A shower is in my future. I know only because Cleo told me; I called for a free readin'. She didn't tell me what kind of realpoo I'd be using. See, we don't have any shampoo around here. The woman prefers to be all natural, all the time. My 2,000 places are clean enough with Irish or Ivory. I can't believe I'm going to be Trekking all day on the couch. I love the new TNN! They might as well turn it into the Star Trek channel. No arguments here. I'd love to know that I could tune into an episode any time, day or night. Except for TOS. My friends and I have this little maxim: “If Worf ain't there, we don't care.” I'm kidding, of course. I don't have any friends.

The dog has peed. Lucky for us, he did it when I took him outside. He's curled up on the couch right now. If I could convince Gretchen to trot upstairs and get my Webcam, I'd show you what I'm talking about. She's making soup for lunch, though – so I best not interrupt her. It's some kind of momato-based meal. “Die, Flanders!” Not that I could do any better with it, just that liquid food tends not to satisfy me fully. I'll be hunting around in the fridge a few hours from now, regardless. Need solids. Body needs solids. I crave sustenance. That's the word of the day; everybody scream and shout.

Down With Entropy

Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles. I'm actually working wirelessly in my loft. And even though the WAP is not too far from my position, I'm still pulling in a 50% signal. I could get used to computing this way – especially when the loft is cooler. Gretchen wants me to take the Hump Hound outside while she fixes lunch. I suppose I should, but I just can't find the energy to do it. Actually, I know I have the energy – I just don't WANT to do it. Is that not a good enough excuse? Okay, I suppose not. But she's making me watch some stupid movie on Lifetime. Bah. At least it isn't Oxygen.

It's A Small World

Reason number 322 to own a laptop: keeps you warm on those chilly San Francisco nights. We got back from painting the town red ninety minutes ago, and despite having a full day, I'm not ready to hit the sack. I'm actually thinking about cracking open a DVD and watching it before too long. We'll see if I'm just as motivated at the end of this entry.
