13 Port USB Hub!
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed
I absolutely love USB. I’ve made no secret of that fact in the past. I run out of USB ports all the time. I have 8 ports on my computer itself, and an additional 7 off the pc. I still don’t have enough! So, receiving this for Christmas was great!
Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial bus standard to interface devices. USB was designed to allow peripherals to be connected using a single standardized interface socket and to improve plug-and-play capabilities by allowing devices to be connected and disconnected without rebooting the computer (hot swapping). Other convenient features include providing power to low-consumption devices without the need for an external power supply and allowing many devices to be used without requiring manufacturer specific, individual device drivers to be installed.
I have tons of thumb drives, have used the USB Snowman, and even the doggie that plugs into a USB port and does “doggie things”. I’m looking for more cool USB devices. What ideas of things I can get do you have? Leave me a follow-up comment, or send an email to me at chris@pirillo.com.

USB 3.0 will be compatible with USB 2.0. Does that mean you will be able to get 3.0 speeds with a 2.0 port?

The USB powered Hamster is the latest edition to the USB gadget toy range. This cute little critter will run in his cage as you type. Connect it to your USB, the faster you type, the faster this Hamster runs

Nope, the 3.0 port bandwith speed will be reduced to work as a 2.0 port, and if u plug a 2.0 device into a 3.0 hub it will not take advantage of the speed increase

wow, have I been there ;)
I bought a couple of USB memory watches (laks makes them) and they came with this tiny CD-ROM for the 98 drivers (I believe ME had them on board).
No matter how well you followed instruction in the pdf on the CD-ROM, about 1 out of 3 times you the dark thing in or out of the port, yep, BSOD.
See and this was the 98-style BSOD, no information, 2 suggestions (press key or hit Ctrl+Alt+Del) and neither of those did anything.

I got the USB Doomsday Device from ThinkGeek for Christmas. True, it’s only a 4 port USB hub, but having switches to flick and a big red button to push more than makes up for it’s other limitations. My youngest son loves to push the big red button and then run away screaming before the explosion sounds. Nothing says “geek” like a big red button.

USBs should be required as the only way to hook up everything to your computer, USB keyboards, printers, and speakers
That way you could customize your computer, and make your Personal Computer, just a little more personal.
(I sound like I’m selling USBs now)

My default Compaq came with 6 USB ports. I only use 2 of them currently though since I have no real use for all the plug and play items.

This is something I’m going to definitely have to get one. I’ve got so many USB Items something like this will help sooooooo much. I only have 4 on my mother board but i have a keyboard, mouse, printer, iPod charger/transfer cable and and more stuff that won’t fit. I have to change cables out when I need to use something that isn’t plugged-in.
If any body is looking for a cool little cooler for a 12oz. can. Here’s the link, http://www.xoxide.com/usb-mini-fridge.html

Chris, I know in your video you were asking for unique USB devices, but have you ever considered external USB DVD drivers/burners? Since you keep your computer behind your desk, it seems like having an external player/burner would keep you from having to go around your desk just to insert a disc. Of course, depend on how often you use DVD’s.
I agree with you 110% - you can never have enough USB ports.

Since we are the company that introduced it here in the U.S., and marketed it among all the top tech blogs including engadget, chances are you bought it from us instead of from ‘overseas’ as you say. Our manufacturing partner, is as you say, in China. However, we are a California based company.
