1. If you know what’s good for you, stay as far away from Akihabara as possible. It’s an overpriced tourist trap with crowded, dirty little shops that stink of sweaty otaku. I mean, seriously, unless you know exactly where you’re going, you’re probably not going to find anything worth looking at. If you really must go, do your research ahead of time. Don’t just show up expecting it to be all fun and games. For serious gamers, I recommend a store called “Super Potato.” It’s 3-floors of pure retro awesomeness! If you’re an arcade game enthusiast, “Mak Japan” is pretty money, too! And seriously, if all you wanna to do is see a bunch of funky Japanese hanging out on the street, Yoyogi park and the surrounding neighborhoods of Harajuku and Shibuya are far more interesting. Which, by the way, is also immediately next door to “Meiji shrine,” which, in my opinion, blows “Asakusa shrine” out of the water. Besides, if you’re going to Asakusa, the main attraction isn’t the “shrine,” it’s the “temple,” aka Sensō-ji that everyone goes to see–which, by the way, I wholeheartedly recommend! And for the full on experience, why not ride the Leiji Matsumoto-designed Himiko boat on a cruise down the Sumida River? It runs back and forth to and from Asakusa to Odaiba, which is another pretty cool place to check out. Psst, it used to be the home of the 1/1 scale Gundam statue=P

2. Okay dude, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with kaiten-zushi, aka conveyor belt sushi. It’s cheap, delicious and if you want to get technical, it’s without a doubt the more authentic experience. And FYI, sushi is old news pal. Ramen is where it’s at!!! Save your 10000 yen, because Tokyo is chalk full of the most unbelievable ramen shops that won’t cost you more than 1000 yen. Check it! And if sushi is an absolute must, the Tsukiji fish market is supposedly one of the best places to get the cheapest, freshest fish. I’ve never been there myself so I only mention it because I often hear people talking about it. Again, do some research before you go.

3. It seems like common sense but I swear people will never understand. If you climb Tokyo tower, you won’t be able to see Tokyo tower. And since Tokyo tower is pretty spectacular looking, you’re gonna wanna see it! I recommend going to Roppongi Hills in Roppongi. It has a really nice observation deck from which you’ll be able to see Tokyo tower and much, much more. Go right before sunset, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see the sun set behind Mt. Fuji. It’s quite breathtaking, not to mention super romantic!!!

Okay, that’s about all I’m gonna say about Shogo’s top 10 ( 4 of which were in Akihabara, WTF?) places to visit in Tokyo. Take my advice, and don’t follow Shogo’s advice.

Then you have to go to Square Enix shop in Hatsudai!!!
It only open in Saturday & Sunday though.
