This is the last in our series of travel videos – for now, at least. We have uploaded quite a few of these in the past several months. Each one is full of the places that you – the community – think we should visit if we should ever travel to your hometowns. This last installment is a list of places you don’t want to miss if you ever happen to find yourself in Florida!
- Daytona Beach – This is likely one of the most famous beaches in the US. It’s a beautiful stretch of sand, with so many different things to do you won’t know where to start.
- Daytona International Speedway – Daytona is the home of one of the most-loved race tracks in the country. It’s a super speedway, which means it’s a much larger and faster track than most. It’s also where racing legend Dale Earnhardt died during the last lap of the Daytona 500 in February of 2001.
- Bucca di Beppo – This is one of the best Italian restaurants on the face of the planet. There are locations spread around the country, but you’ll find one right in Daytona Beach, as well.
- Ponce de Leon Lighthouse – Completed in 1887, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station was built when the area was known as Mosquito Inlet. After decades of restoration by the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, it stands today as one of the best preserved, most complete Light Stations in the nation.
- Congo River Mini Golf – Travel to a world of excitement… from high atop giant waterfalls and rocky summits to the depths of mysterious caves, Congo River Golf delivers the best in family fun!
- Jacksonville Zoo – Escape to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for the only walking safari in Northeast Florida. Discover the earth’s wildlife through interactive and educational experiences. A true family adventure, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is growing and changing daily and is dedicated to the consistently improving.
- Jacksonville Museum of Science and History – This is a very interesting museum consisting of loads of historical content, including Dino- Raur. Dino-Raur is a dinosaur exhibit with “real” moving, and noise making dinosaurs. Water Worlds is another exhibit, where you get a glimpse into three different coral reef tanks and two freshwater tanks.
- Veterans Memorial Park – Visit the beautiful wall, dedicated to the Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It’s a somber place, and one that will make you want to just sit and reflect quietly. A moment of silence is always called for here.
- Atlantic Beach – Atlantic Beach is another awesome place to visit, filled with activities for young and old.
- Cheer your Favorite Team – Florida is home to many professional sports teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (just to name three!).

As a fellow Jacksonvillian (is that correct?) — well, actually a Ponte Vedran (close enough) geek — that was a pretty good list.
I am curious how he could leave off St. Augustine? Great place to eat, especially (hardly any chains and fantastic local seafood), plus you get great historical places to visit — it is the nation’s oldest city, after all and the 2nd most haunted city in the country. All fun stuff.
Great shout-out to Angie’s Subs, too! An absolute must if your in NE Florida.

Chris, I grew up in Jacksonville, FL, but that was 40 years ago. A few things have changed since then. It does get a bit hot in Florida, but believe it or not, you do get use to it if you live there long enough. One place that was not mentioned in the video, Bono’s bar-b-que. I have not eaten in a bar-b-que restaurant that matches it. If you ever get down to Jax, try Bono’s. You will like it.

What about Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Sea World and the countless other theme parks?
There are also a number of sinkholes to visit. They’re pretty neat. There are dozens of natural springs to visit. There is canoeing, tubing, or just swimming available.
And as for cheering your favorite teams, if you’re into sports, there is one team worth cheering for — the Gators.
And of course, like any other place, there are countless museums and historic monuments and great places to eat.

Hii folks!! I’m a 35yr Tallahassee Lassie, die-hard Gator, currently living in the Poconos. My 85yo Dad though was born and brought up in Daytona. His family owned the first hotel there-which WAS located on the mainland-early 1900’s they wouldn’t allow hotels on the Beach-or peninsula. His sis and brother still live in Ponce Inlet-right near the lighthouse. ;). My absolute favorite places were actually a bit inland. They’re also some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The natural springs-which are crystal clear and 72deg F year-round!! Near Daytona is Alexandria Springs. DON’T bother with the tourist traps up in Ocala- ie: weeki wachi, and Silver Springs. They’re all along the Suwanee River, and another gorgeous “collection” of them between Gainesville and St Augustine. (Which is a must-see in itself). Ask locals!! At the lighthouse-most folks know my aunt-”Bubbles”, (no kidding-Grandmommy was “Bugs” and her sisters were “Toady” and… You get the picture. :). The older natives LOVE to help interested Tourists!! There’s a old seafood restaraunt right around the corner from lighthouse-Inlet Harbor, can you say FRESH??!! If you want to know anything else-especially about fishing and “out of the way” places-My cousin, Andy White is manager of the Tackle Box- on A1A, right near where you turn onto the Port Orange bridge!! Tell him elaine sent you!! ;)
Enjoy the “Real Florida”!!! Oh- and if you’re in or near Tallahassee, don’t leave before going to Wakulla Springs!! (I used to be a paramedic around there-ate and swam there every day!!!)
